Good sign that your daughter cry after the CA.

Looks like she is a good student.
Those who did badly and still bo-chap will certainly liao!

In any case, a friend passed me a book with an interesting title.
Maths Without Tears by Fabian Ng.
It contains full papers with full solutions.
Very good support for weak students.

I like the following words in Fabian’s Foreword, which is really reassuring.

You have in your hands a book which will help you to excel in the PSLE.
I trust that this book will be a great blessing to many pupils.
It will certainly bring much joy, meaning and satisfaction in the learning of mathematics for those who cherish it.

For those interested, this book is sold at Big Bookshop. I got mine from the Tampines branch.

                  Chenonceau:

Therefore, parents need to pay tuition centres to mark, GRADE, and comment on our children's compos. Since last year, I have to re-correct my son's compos from exams and class practices. His teacher makes too many spelling and grammar mistakes... misses out other mistakes... and gives few comments. How to learn from school like that.
I go through my son's marked class compos too because his teacher makes grammatical mistakes and misses out his real mistakes. After going through, will point out to him those that were marked wrongly and also ask him to note his real mistakes.

Is it the norm for your dc sch not to release compo & oral marks?

For EL, only situational writing marks were 'given' (cos I managed to see it tho teacher blanko it off). H/e, no marks on compo writing given tho the paper was returned. Ds & dd said teacher dun tell dem marks for compo. I can only gauged the combined std of compo+oral. Even during PT mtg, teacher usually give general feedback like ok rather than telling the score. When checking grade, they will also cover the list to prevent us fr 'peeping'.
It is a common practice that teachers only give the grade or the range but not the actual mark. My boy was told that he got above 30 for compo & A for oral.

Hmmmmm.... Why is this common practice though? Common may not be right. In times past in Singapore ... spitting was common too.

Yes, those compo done in class, remarks given are one sentence comments, hardly useful. Not too sure are they given feedback for improvement in class. Was told to get them to read more to improve, year after year. When I get /dd to practice writing, I can't mark as my EL is not gd! Tuition is def no no, I can't find more time to squeeze into their alrdy crazy schedule.

Btw, their teachers also do not give out email addresses. All comm need go thru general office. Hesitant to write in to P. as I don't want them being blacklisted!

:scared: No email addresses given ?!

I don't understand the logic of all comm need to go thru general office. Isn't that a lot of \"red tape\" ?

I have my boy's English teacher handphone no. she is his co-form teacher cum HOD. I had SMS her a couple of times. My son's English has improved from 72 (P5,SA2) to 82 (P6,SA1). However, she tends to give a lot of homework & 2 compo per month.
