The torture started last year. But that was for P5 :faint:

P6 this year is another set of torture :lightrod:
After 9 months, it's finally over...but it is not considered truly over yet, bcos results are not out and sec school posting is not known till Dec.

PSLE 2013. Parents, prepare your kids in November.

      Janet,
I would like to make good use of Year end holiday. Through your experience, how would you suggest parents start to prepare our kids starting from November?

If u dun mind, I can share too.

Scrutinise your DC's SA2 exam papers and identify strengths and weaknesses. The year hols is the best time to conquer all weak areas before taking on p6. Speak or email all his/her teachers to help identify areas to work on and tips on how to improve.

For me, I broke every thing down to specific areas with a strategy for each one.

This really worked for me. My greatest pleasure this year was to see a confident DD who did not have a stressful year.
Hi Poeny,
Of course! I am grateful to receive suggestions or tips in any form! Thank you!
One question, you mention you have a strategy for each weak area, can you elaborate how you do it?

Yes, I definitely agreed with Janet that you need to prepare your kid in November. That was what I did & my DD didn`t really feel so stressed towards PSLE. In fact, on the days/nites before the PSLE exams papers, she was even allowed to chill out with friends & watch TV & thankfully during the PSLE exams, she seems to take it very well as compared to her classmates. And I`m a strong believer in consistent results throughout P4 & P5. best regards,

AGREED! I spent last Nov and Dec working with my DD's tutor who was nice enough to provide private lessons on top of her regular grp lessons. Sent her for workshops which targeted certain weaknesses too.

i think it paid off, as my girl was not too stressed out this year and was able to handle everything like a champ.

Thanks for ALL parents here who walked together for our PSLE kids. What a journey we had. Yet, the battle is not over. Feeling like \"Hunger Game\", yearly event of \"reaping\" sends kids into the battle field, not to the extend of death though, but for those we have gone through, it was certainly not easy. BUT, let us cherish the moment of relief and relish our fruit of labour, May all the children get what they worked for and wished for! :congrats:

                  Hi Happyheart,

The strategy depends on the specific weakness. For example, if she is losing marks for compo, I check which area- plot? Language? Missing link?

If it’s language, then I probe further too - words used? Sentences?

If it’s words, I’ll list specific task for her e.g replace boring words with better ones. I’ll list the boring words and she has to search for better ones.

If it’s sentences, then I’ll give her exercises to replace simple ones with more complex ones. And to get her to pick up super sentences from books.

I also check with her teachers to get tips/strategies or other specific weaknesses.

Oops! Just saw that u asked for maths as examples.

I list her weak topics then get her to redo all mistakes to ensure she has mastered them. I also pick qns for her to do. I don’t drill. Pick and choose more challenging ones until she masters them.

In the first 6 months of P6, teaching still goes on. Prelim is like SA2.

You can allow kids to play for a few weeks after P5 SA2…but start teaching P6 syllabus in Dec.

After the last paper today, my DD happily went to play with her friends & came back @6pm but now, she is down with a temperature of 38C. Thank God she fell sick now rather than in the midst of her exams, heng ah! But will miss her childrens day celebration in school tomorrow. Anyway, wish everyone of you here, HAPPY CHILDRENs DAY!!!
