2012 P1 Registration Exercise for 2013 In-Take
-
HI,
ya my back up is registering him to KCPS in Bishan which is within 2km, bse on the statistic my wife collected it seems he will stand a better chance to get a place in KCPS then in NCPS . It's really a big headache to register our kids to primary school. I didn't consider our previous primary school as mine has shifted and my wife had close down.
smurfynut:
Sorry to hear that, Sam_Lee72... what are your revised plans, if any?
-
Sam_Lee72:
NCPS PV result is out. I am one of the many rejected applicants. I think the chances for my DS to get into NCPS is extremely slim even I am staying last then 500m from the school.
Sam_Lee72:
You stay less than 500m from NCPS, yet you are within 2km of KCPS??HI,

You have 2 homes, or going by caretaker route? -
Hi class monitor,
yes I am staying less the 500m from NCPS but if I register under phase 2C the chance of getting in is 1 : 3.14 but if I register KCPS under the caretaker route chances of getting in to KCPS is higher the ratio is 1 : 1.2. It may sound kinda of odd but I considering base on the chance of getting a placing when balloting.

So, you plan to look at the situation when it comes to registration, and decide which address to use? :scratchhead:Hi class monitor,

Let's say if the chance at NCPS is higher, and you end up using your own address, who will look after your child?
Let's say if the chance at KCPPS is higher and you use the caregiver's address, will this caregiver be looking after your child, or will you be using it just to register successfully at KCPPS? -

Hi phtthp,hi gekkhim,
regarding yr concern - whether RGPS P1 2013 intake is going to be reduced further from 270 to 240, I rang up RGPS Princpal to inquire. She replied she is not sure - because the numbers are not controlled by her, but by MOE.
so i wrote in to MOE to inquire same thing.
MOE replied that at this point in time (September 2011), the numbers for RGPS 2013 intake still not finalized yet. The numbers will only be out around June 2012.
however, the reply did encourage parents to have alternative school(s) in mind, instead of just having a preferred choice school.
reason given:
========
the reply stated that RGPS intake may be reduced gradually, necessary to implement the initiatives under the Primary Education Review and Implementation (PERI) Committee - to enhance primary school education and enable children to benefit from a wider range of academic and non-academic activities, and achieve better learning outcome(s).
the reply stated that it'll require the primary schools to transit and operate in single-session, with a gradual reduction in the enrolment of primary schools.

Thank you for the reply, this is a good piece of information. Nevertheless, I feel that such piece of information is very critical for the parents who can then decide and plan what is their best chance ahead of time.
Especially for those parent volunteers, who sincerely commits their time and effort to the students and school deserve a better treatment. -
hi gekkhim,
in your case, perhaps you register at your alma mater Princess Elizabeth Primary (PEPS) first, under phase 2A. Safer that you have a school to hang onto first. PEPS is also a good school. -
phtthp:
Thank you for your advice, we are considering this option too. Sigh..hi gekkhim,

you can assess the situation on actual day.
but because you've got a good school PEPS confirmed, it's v risky to try 2C, as you stay >2km. If you're not PV and you come under 2C >2km, judging by past 2 years trend (2010 & 2011), may not get chance to ballot.
a) for PVs under phase 2B
========================
if you're already a PV - perhaps later on be the first in the priority queue, to queue up yr daughter for transfer. This is another safer option.
because this year 2011 under phase 2B parent volunteers, those residing <1km and 1-2km - all got in without balloting. But for PVs staying > 2km, 8 girls balloted out.
There are also RGPS girls on wait list to other schools.
should there be any withdrawal from any kids before year end this year or early next year (vacancies arising due to relocation overseas or transfer out to other schools, example: to affliated SCGS, MGS), heard that some girls from PV parents got good chance of transfer back into RGPS.
refer to past statistics:-
=====================
for past 7 years from 2004 to 2010, based on an intake of 300 (10 classes), all PVs got in happily. No problem. No balloting required, including those staying further > 2km. This was because the number 300 intake was huge enough to absorb all PVs.
however notice that when intake drop suddenly wef this year 2011 from 300 to 270, those > 2km were affected. For the first time, balloting was required. 8 unlucky students were balloted out. Rejected. Because the number 270 intake was insufficient to absorb all PVs.
i) what is the take in acceptance rate like for PVs in recent years - going by distance ?

b) for open public under phase 2C
==============================
for past 6 years from 2004 to 2009 (with intake 300), balloting need to take place - only those staying far, >2km. All was peaceful unlike ...
last 2 years 2010 (with intake 300) and 2011 (intake 270) ā demand of applicants suddenly soar up very high.
notice that even those staying near 1-2km no chance to ballot at all. Those >2km also no chance to ballot.
how was phase 2C 2011 balloting for schools in Bukit Timah area ?

My parents is the one taking care of my son so I have the choice of NCPS or KCPPS but i have to make a decision eventually, of cos I will have a lot of things to consider before making a decision that is better for my son and all of us.

hi Sam_Lee72,
NCPS is a good SAP school, help to ground your son in Chinese values.
KCPS is mission based, and have good character building program in the school, plus affliated although your son can also go other Secondary school as well next time. KCPS also a good school.
both schools are good. They have their own unique merit & strength.
how was phase 2C 2011 balloting for schools in Seng Kang area ?
