using fractions:Hi appreciate your assistance on the following question.
A box of beads was sold out in 4 days. 1/5 of the beads were sold on the second day. 3/10 of the beads were sold on the third day. The number of beads sold on the fourth day was 14 more than that sold on the second day. The ratio of the beads sold on the first day to the total number of beads sold on the next 3 days was 1:7.
a) What was the total number of beads in the box?
b) how many more beads were sold on day 4 than on day 1?
:nailbite:
Day 2 --> 1/5 of beads = 8/40 of beads
Day 3 --> 3/10 of beads =12/40 of beads
Day 4 --> 8/40 of beads + 14 beads
Day 2+Day3+Day 4 --> 28/40 of beads + 14 beads
Day 1 --> 1/8 of beads = 5/40 of beads
Day 1 + Day 2+Day3+Day 4
= 28/40 of beads + 14 beads + 5/40 of beads
= 33/40 of beads + 14 beads
7/40 of beads --> 14 beads
1/40 of beads --> 2 beads
a) Total number of beads --> 40 x 2 = 80 beads
b) Day 4 --> 8 x 2 + 14 = 30 beads
Day 1 --> 5 x 2 = 10 beads
30 beads - 10 beads = 20 beads --> 20 more bead were sold on Day 4 than on Day 1.

Tim : total = 1: 6 --> Tim : Dan + Henry = 1 : 51) Tim,Dan and Henry were given some marbles.
Tim received 1/6 of the marbles.
Dan 's share of the marbles was 6/11 of Henry.
Tim and Dan received 94 marbles altogether.
a) How many marbles were given to Henry?
b) How many marbles did the three of them receive?
Can someone help to solve the above using units/ratio method?
Thanks in advance n in a milion.
Dan : Henry = 6 : 11 --> Dan : Henry : Dan + Henry = 6 : 11 : 17
Dan+Henry : Tim : Dan : Henry --> 85u : 17u : 30u : 55u
Tim + Dan --> 47u --- 94 marbles
1u --> 2 marbles
a) Henry --> 110 marbles
b) total --> 110 marbles + 94 marble = 204 marbles

:thankyou:Draw a model with 10 equal parts.
1/5 of the beads were sold on the second day=2 parts
3/10 of the cards (I think you meant beads) were sold on the third day=3 parts
ratio of the beads sold on the first day to the total number of beads sold on the next 3 days was 1:7=total beads should be divided into 8 (1+7) parts. Thus we need to share out the original 10 parts into 8 parts=10/8=1 1/4. This means that for each of the original part, you need to further divide into 4 smaller parts. Thus day 1=1original part+1small part (sorry I don't know how to draw out on the computer, hope you understand)
number of beads sold on the fourth day was 14 more than that sold on the second day=remaining parts=3 original parts+3small parts
Thus 1 original part+3small parts=7small parts=14 beads. 1 small part=2 beads.
a) Total number of beads in the box=2x4x10=80 beads
b) No. of beads sold on day 4=16+14=30 beads
No. of beads sold on day 1=4+2=6
24 more beads were sold on day 4 than day 1
Think I'm correct, hope you understand -
Jug X & Jug Y contained some apple juice. if 2/7 of the apple juice from jug Y was poured into Jug X, the ratio of the amount of apple juice in Jug Y to that in Jug X would be 10:13. What was the ratio of the amount of apple juice in jug Y to the amount of apple juice in Jug X at first?
