Just can't understand why must all these be dragged till the last day of the year? Why can't they have it cut-off sometime in Dec? Not sure if this is done by the same school. Are you referring to what happen to a specific school who called people even on last day, or early Jan?lizawa:
The results of the appeal will be made known sometime late December, if I am not wrong. So, you have to be prepared and need to wait till last minute to get all the books and school uniforms. And perhaps you will have to miss some of the talks and orientation for new students and parents.
Yes, it can be as late as 31st Dec or even early Jan that I have heard of. I have seen a case, bought the books and uniforms of the posted school on 30th Dec because thought no hope liao. Then the appeal school called on 31st Dec for the successful appeal. Gone the money of the books and uniforms bought (about $400). Some even have to wear primary school uniforms to the Sec school on 1st day of school. -

3 different schools I know, still called peoples on the last day.
2 schools (different from the above 3), on early Jan, still calling. -
errr....i beg your pardon...not the school's fault , right? who is the one appealing first huh??? :?
-
Are the late notifications only for those who appeal after S1 posting? How about those who decide to switch schools despite having been posted to a school after DSA, like edanson’s case?

Agree .. it's because some schools are kind enough to accommodate students who appeal after the PSLE posting and who give up the DSA confirmed place for their initial first choice school after getting outstanding results. This has created additional slots in some schools, thus they are giving choices to those who might still want to join them. This is an OPTION, the choice is still on the parents/students to join the school, even though they may have bought uniforms, books, and must go thru the admin hassle. You can't blame the schools!
I know of a case of a reputable girls school near Orchard Rd which offered a place only in late Feb/early March, because one of its students had decided to migrate. The new girl still took up the offer, despite missing 2 months of lessons. The choice was hers/her parents'! -

Thanks to lizawa and other forum members for their interesting feedback and input on this matter.
You are unlikely to know for sure, if your kid's score is 1- 2 points above COP, the day the PSLE results is out. You can guess, but you cannot know for sure. The COP will only be known after the Sec 1 Posting exercise.
So unless the PSLE score is something like high 260+ and above, then, you can be sure that you are above the COP of all the top schools.
BTW, lizawa, the reason I put \"1-2 points\" was to starkly differentiate the case in question from edanson's case where her child scored above 280 - and that's WAY above the cut-off point of the super top schools. Hence, edanson's case might have been allowed as a special case. I wanted to know whether kids with good (but not exceptional) results which are above (but not greatly above) the historical COP of the IP schools could go thru this same appeal process successfully.
Thanks again to everyone for their views and feedback.

hi kohji, 1 to 3 marks, I have seen successful and non ones. In appeal, they would see your P5 and P6 results. Then there is interview. But what is actually the criteria they looking for, nobody knows. Eg. I knew of 2 students, both diff by 3 marks. Both appealled the same school, one was successful, the other was not. In fact, both were called for interview. One had consistant good P5 and P6 results while the other no. Another case in another school, different by 2 marks, consistant P5 and P6 results, called for interview but unsuccessful. Another case, again different school, DSA not succesful, under waiting list. PSLE scores diff by 4 marks, appealled. Selected for intereview and another round of sport test, still unsuccessful. Another most amazing case, diff by 1 mark, today appeal, tommorrow being inform successful. In total, all 4 different schools I have mentioned above. Thanks to lizawa and other forum members for their interesting feedback and input on this matter.

Hi daisyt, when you say that the marks differ from the cut off points by 3 points, do you mean above or below the cut off point?

All the points I mentioned are below COP. -
daisyt:
Thanks. I was a little confused because edanson's case was above COP. Going for appeal is really like going for the DSA process all over again.turquoise:
