Usually the teachers would pass the highest score essays around or show them in class. This applies to history too. And it is usual the case, for 作文, tends to 离题, lor sou, inappropriate use of words and 文章不顺畅. Slowly, with more reading, sure can improve. Thats why they do many articles reflection = 读后感 and this definately can help to improve writing.sall:
The highest score for the 1st Chinese compo was 51/70. Almost half the class failed and got to rewrite. Wonder if other class trs are also so strict.
Go ask the teacher what should a compo of the same title that score 69/70 looks like. -

Actually, it's quite a NORM
It's already considered as \"pro\" to be able to score bewteen 50-56 (56 being A+, 80%) for HCL essays.
fyi, in my gal's school, those HCL model essays which were selected as being published into a book,
were at most graded between that range of scores, according to her chinese teacher who told them last yr. -
WeiHan:
none of the students could get such marks
Go ask the teacher what should a compo of the same title that score 69/70 looks like.

Look like the CL compo will be a headache :faint: in Secondary School again. I think I better spend some time to re learn and buck up my writing skill. -

Yes. Thank you for your thoughtful. I am watiing to clear the 2 plastic bags of stuff in another 6 months time. -
I supposed in all the SAP sch, the Chinese standard is v high and trs also have high expectations, resulting in low marks. Got to adjust my own expectations too, I'm so used to seeing dd score 48/50 or 49/50 for Chinese compo in pri sch, so it's quite a shock to see her marks this time. Her tr's handwriting is illegible, it is a real challenge trying to read her comments on dd's script. Thought chinese trs should have v beautiful and neat handwriting.

That teacher always dreamt to be a doctor but end up being a chinese teacher. -

Don't be so sure about that. Our students' standard in chinese are really not that high.

I came to this conclusion because my colleague who was a PRC told us that certain student can get almost full mark for his university entrance chinese essay writing. And their standard is really very high one. -
Maybe when the tr is writing comments on the scripts, she imagines that she's writing prescriptions for the patients.
Don't mean to be critical, but I don't think it's acceptable for a chinese tr to write this way, she's supposed to set good example for the students. The chinese characters has all those strokes that should be emphasized all the time! How to expect the students to write well when the tr has such atrocious handwriting.
