River Valley High School [*IP]
Indeed, many parents have the same worries for IP. It took me and my girl a deep thought before we both decided to give it a go and took up the challenge. In fact, out of my 5 parents friends I asked for opinions last year, all the 5 did not buy the idea of IP.
Why not? Legally skipping 'O' levels - that's an idea I am for.
Studying and mugging for major exams is no fun and downright boring. Take for example , for PSLE , all the child does is to do piles of past year exam papers from March onwards till Oct. To me, this is sheer waste of learning time. Imagine , another year is 'wasted' in this manner drilling for the 'O' levels.
Due to the presence of top IP schools, it is also very difficult to get into good JCs based on 'O' level results. The child's results and CCA have to be very outstanding (like 3 points???) to ensure a place in the top JCs.
So, if a child can handle the stress and workload, I think the IP route will give him greater avenues for learning. -
N2SKiasu, thanks. Haha, like PSLE ... this sentence is cute.
csc, one friend told me \"its another fancy idea the MOE came out with to test and try\". Other friends main concern are if the child do not do well in A level, or even like could not get A level cert, that means the child do only has a PSLE cert ? Then where is the child going to continue ? They prefer the traditional route.
Anway, my thinking, whatever it is, its always not the end. There are sure some other ways for the child to continue education. Since my girl like this type of teaching, just go for it lor.
Think so much, more white hairs for me .... haha -

Can always go and take 'O' level as private candidates if they want an 'O' level cert. The IP schools should have a robust system to testify that the students keep up with the desired standard as they progress and not to leave them to fail their 'A' level. They do have term test and exam to keep their students up.N2SKiasu, thanks. Haha, like PSLE ... this sentence is cute.

N3SKiasu:
Happened to ask my girl about this DSA but I forget to post. :oops:Sure, I try to remember...
There are 4 papers, EL and Sc on one day and CL and Maths on another day. Duration think about 1 hr each. quite tiring for the children in the afternoons.
------------.
There were 2 RV students passing by the test venue and overheard them whispering \"wa.. like PSLE..\".. ..err..I am sure its tougher than PSLE, cos thats the way to differentiate.
She told me, yes like what N3SKiasu mentioned,. 4 papers, in two days and the hall was full with students. Really very PSLE atmosphere

Anyone knows when RVHS DSA result (after interview) will be out?
-
Hi BC, according to the school website, \"4 September 2009 - All applicants will receive reply from school on the outcome of their applications.\"

haha…I just read what you all have written. I agree you should not underestimate RV’s student just base on COP.
Last year A level result, one of the three RI top students who got 9 straight As was a former RV boy. Since RV hasn’t full IP yet, he finished his O level and go to RI.
If you check the MOE information website, RV is the only school with average COP scores above 255 that won a silver for "academic value added". It is the value added that is one of the most important I’ll think. -

What is academic value added ? :? And yes, one of my girl's senior, from RV to HCI, still always come back to RV to help their juniors in CCA.If you check the MOE information website, RV is the only school with average COP scores above 255 that won a silver for \"academic value added\". It is the value added that is one of the most important I'll think.

I think the MOE has a projected O level or A level results that each cohort of students is expected to get based of their COP, PSLE avergae aggregate etc...If the final results exceed the expected value, then it is \"academic value added\". U can pull own to the award column, the got some level one award thingy.....

That's also because the other schs are IP schs that do not offer 'O' level classes. Hence they are out of the \"academic value-added\" awards.haha...I just read what you all have written. I agree you should not underestimate RV's student just base on COP.

Having said that, I do agree that RV is a good sch.
