It is a day surgery. The cost is about $600 at SGH. You can go home right after the surgery. It will hurt for a few days, then after that you will be absolutely fine. You still have your menses and you still function exactly like before.
There are many married women who go for abortion to terminate unwanted pregnancies. It is very cruel for any woman to kill their own unborn child.
Going through the ligation is a simple procedure. It is much better than the prospect of going through an abortion. -
Ligation can have complications and could cause some infections if not done properly but that is just a small risk.

Yes it is best to find a very experienced doctor and a good hospital to carry out the procedure. It is a very small risk to take, in comparison to getting pregnant and aborting the baby. -
Personally, I prefer IUS (updated version of IUD) to ligation as it is more reversible.
Yes, I may decide that I do not want any more children (I have 3 kids), but having ligation done is seems so "final" for me…

Yes, I prefer IUS too. (http://www.mirena.com). Not only is it reversible, I don't get periods when I use it. I have very heavy and long periods and suffer from bad stomach cramps and backaches too. With Mirena, I save in the long run on medication (to deal with the pain), pads, time lost due to pain and occasional need to \"do extra laundry\". If ligation costs about $600, Mirena costs about the same and lasts for about 5 years.Personally, I prefer IUS (updated version of IUD) to ligation as it is more reversible.

Other contraceptive methods require the use of long term drugs which may have undesirable effects on a woman's body. I used to be on contraceptive pills for many years, which even improved my complexion. But I stopped when I discovered undesirable effects.

I agree with you on the forever and final part too. However, for people like me who aren't 100% sure and may still be able to have kids, IUS is a very good deal. And I don't feel any side effects other than slight cramping and spotting for a few days after insertion. My periods will gradually \"disappear\". If I remove the IUS without replacing it, it takes my system about 1 cycle to resume to \"normal operation\". (I tried the mini pill too but I became someone I didn't like very much.) -
Heyya schellen, didn't we have a birth control or
a contraceptives topic previously when we had
some detailed discussions on this. You recall
where anot?
