        chixchix:

Since he has started Pq, he has become more vocal in talking ,most of the time spouts nonsense. Sometimes he can be a real good boy.
He just doesnt want to listen to me when I teach him Maths. I have tried talking to him many times with a soft approach. but he makes funny faces or reacts in a manner that shows me that he is not listening.
        chixchix,
i started off coaching ds1 math when he starts P1. midway into P1, i had had enough of his attitude and dh graciously offered to take over the coaching. cos ds1 is more scared of dh, it makes him focus more when dh is explaining concepts. i realised too that it makes a difference to the outcome of his math home assessment when the paper is done on days when the dad is around or not.
so see if your dh can help??

            Hi,

I need some advise on what is the expected working for this type of questions

            Qns

            I give away 6 cupcakes.
            I have 8 cupcakes left.
How many cupcakes do I have at first?

            ___ ( ) ___ = ____

I have ____ cupcakes at first.

            ============================================

While it is obvious that the answer is 14. But should the working be

            _8_ ( + ) _6_ = _14_

            OR

            _14_ ( - ) _6_ = _8_

            😄

                  Hi Mummies of P1 kids,

Just want to check with you on your kids’ Math.
Have you started teaching your kids using Models? I saw Fabian Ng has problem-solving processes (Models) starting from P2…but a friend who is a teacher, told me that it’s better to start teaching models at P1. What’s your take on this ?

Janet, I believe it is ok to introduce model drawing to your child if your child’s math foundation is already established. Also if he/she is a visual learner, model diagram will appeal to him/her. However, if you tried and there is resistance or signs of not-ready, then you should not force it as it may have adverse effects later.

I personally feel that models helps visualizing. Its like an alternative to algebra. Both are the same to me, just one with numbers, the other with pictures.

Forgot to add - I’ve been using models since P1; still using models.
