Night before Sci SA2 Paper
-
Hello!
My dd will be having her Science SA2 paper this week among her other papers. Glad that her exams will be over by this week. Then can finally relax.
I was just wondering, what is the best approach to help dd with revision the day/night before her Science paper. This is the first year she's doing Science. Not her first Sci exam/test as there were her SA1 and CA2 and topical test and all. But this is the real final exam where all topics will be tested.
I am quite lost as to how to help her do a final revision the night before the exam. Even going through all the topics would take hours. And I am not even sure if it is a good idea to go through so much information at a go.
Fyi, she's been doing regular and also a massive revision during the psle marking days, when she needn't go to school, we've also been revising.
So, my question is not about last minute trying to cramp all information into the head the night before. More like, what are the main things that are good to remind and all. Really afraid she may forget the keywords and all during her attempt at the OE section. At the same time, I am trying to achieve a balance of not stressing her out the night before her exam. Help ... quite lost ... sigh ...
I know different kids, different approach. But if any of you have any tips, please feel free to share ... really appreciate it. MTIA. -
My gal is P4 this year. Tom is her Science papers. What i usually will do is , i have given her one past year Science paper to attempt this afternoon. Thereafter, i will only go thru the corrections tonight. For the notes wise, my humble advice is not to unless he/she is already very familiar with the science facts. Else, it might backfire and confuse her. Having say that, i have actually went thru all the main points for P3 and P4 over last weekend. I normally would not do so the night before cos i remembered last year, i thot to go thru english grammer rules the previous night. In the end, paid a dear price cos the little princess got \" confused\" over what her mummy trying to tell her ?

I do not believe in last-minute cramming. I never did myself as I found it just increases stress and confusion, so I have never asked my kids to do it either. My advice to my kids was: understand as much as you can in daily work, memorise certain items but use your understanding to support long-term memory rather than just relying on short-term memory, revise in advance, then on the final night, relax and sleep early (maybe just 30 mins earlier than usual).

Tomorrow my P4 also last paper ah.
Will get him to read through school notes, file and a science guide. I try to avoid direct coaching on the last day as i will get worked up :frustrated: if he still does not know what he was supposed to know - i prefer to be an ostrich! -
DD also in P3 is done with her exams.
For Science, during the 4 days PSLE break, I asked her to go through the notes given by the school. Only to find that was really very little notes given. So pulled out Science process skills open ended assessments and told her to do the questions and write down the correct answers and use those as revision instead.
The day before the paper, we did nothing. What can be done should have been done. Going through everything again may just cause anxiety if she starts 2nd guessing herself. So we just chilled. -
Thank you all for your kind reply and sound advice.
Yup … I think the most important thing is not to confuse the kid. I think I more or less know what to do le. All the best for all your dd/ds SA2 exams! -
what i did was to ask dc to go thru the past year papers that she has done, with the model answers provided. i think in this way, it is better for them to know what should be added in the answers… esp keywords…
i usually highlight those keywords way before and let her go thru them a week before exam… on the last night, just get to go thru again and read out loud…
