School uni can be bought at the school on orientation day but the queue to buy is super long. I let my DS try the sizes at the school and chose to go to Shanghai Uniform’s warehouse in Jalan Pemimpin to buy them. No need to wait at all. PE, house T-shirt and white uniforms can be bought from the warehouse.

Finally got the details, including the 2 SMSs sent by the Admin. I am heartened to note that they are well-organised!
Silly question, maybe…on PE days, do the boys wear PE shorts or school shorts? I mean can they just wear the former to school or must they wear the latter and change out?
Thanks Cherrygal for warning us about the potential long queue. If we decide to buy the uniforms from the warehouse, can the boys skip Admin Day then? It’s not really orientation right… -
thanks cherrygal for the tip!
i believe the jln pemimpin warehouse shd hv sizes for the boy to try too?
anyone with kids in P1E next year??
i m surprised to fast buy textbks.
how is the culture at maris, cherrygal / other parents?
academic driven?? are there lot of bullies?? m more worried abt a boys-sch environment. my boy somehow havent 开窍. everyday still say dun want to go sch. just thinkg of play only. not matured at all. cant really take care of himself too…sigh… -
Dun skip admin day coz while the parents listen to the talks and tips, your boy will get to make more friends and won’t be so afraid on the first day of school. My boy managed to make 5 friends on admin day alone. The kids also get brought around the school grounds and play games.
Another tip, buy more PE sets than white shirt sets. My boy only has to wear his white shirt on one day per week. I ended up with 3 sets and one is still brand new. I bought 3 sets of PE uniforms and 1 house T-shirt (wear once a week).
The kids don’t need to change out of PE attire if they have PE that day. Very flexible. Less ironing for me!
I like MSHS for its good admin people. The admin team is very organized. Teaching culture is not very stressful though some teachers are fiercer than others and have their own idiosyncracies. The younger teachers are nicer and easier to talk to. I find the many ongoing tests more stressful than scheduled exams coz you won’t really know when the tests are coming. Your boy has to be on his toes and pay attention in class. Blur kids or talkative kids may suffer a little.
There will be bullies in every school. You need to teach your kid to either fight back or avoid the bullies. My ds’ friend got punched in the eye and the head. My ds even told me he had to stop another kid from kicking him in the abdomen by holding that boy’s foot. So Jackie Chan… -
aiyo, really worried abt the bullies. my boy being my only son …(the other two are girls)…anyway thanks for ur tips

bigfoot:
My boy is in P1 this year. The homwork is manageable. There are days with no homework at all. Most of the work were completed in school. So if your son is absent for a few days, you can imagine the amount of work he has to do in order to catch up. If you have started giving your son simple work to do, you shouldn't worry too much. Is your son entering P1 in 2012?
They have to take exam but there will be various form of assessment (like show-n-tell) throughout the year.
Thanks for the info, yes ds is going to ms next yr -
Thanks cherrygal!
