Marymount Convent

O's Mummy:
Hi, past years statistics showed that no balloting is required, even more than 2km also successful at Phase 2C to enter Marymount Convent, including this year registration for pupils to enter Pri 1 in 2014. Balloting at Marymount Convent begins at Phase 2CS when other parents flock to Marymount Convent when they failed at balloting at other schools in Phase 2C. I expect Marymount Convent to be a hot school in future which balloting may be required at Phase 2C. Why do I say that? The school is raising funds to rebuild the school and expands it in its current site from 2015 to 2016. Upgrading takes about 2 years. From 2015, all the students will study in the holding school currently occupied by CHIJ Toa Payoh as their holding school too. The pupils will be at the holding school from 2015 to 2016. When upgrading of the school is completed, the students will return back to the actual site of MCS where upgrading has been done.Hi all!
I am new here and trying to gear myself for my DD (born 2009)P1 registration in 2015. Can any parents advise, I am seriously considering MC but I fall under the P2C and I am living in Yishun, which is >2km. I don't mind doing PV but I was told that the registration for PV opens only next year, something after CNY. Is this correct? Also, what are my chances for P2C, based on past years statistics? Tried reading the info, but got abit blur...
For 2016 P1, it will be single session already?
Many thanks in advance.
I understand that the upgrading cost about 3.5 million and the school has to raise funds to come up 5% of it. There will be additional facilities like gymnastics hall, teaching lab etc.
There is modular learning too, pupils from P1 to P6 will be exposed to Wushu, Artistic gymnastics, netball, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, rollerblading, tennis and even golf!
The school has 2 niche area: rhythmic gymnastics and Aesthetics.
You can find out more out the school programme for pupils: http://www.marymountconvent.moe.edu.sg/
I'm heartened to say that I have found the right school for my child who will expose her to learning values, science exposure, learning how to care for the environment which are rather similar to what her previous preschool has expose her to it. I certainly do not want a school that focus solely on academics and I'm glad MCS has a balance of sports incorporated in its Programme too.
There are students who live far away from the school, as far away as Yishun, Sembawang, Woodlands and even Chua Chu Kang! Worry not, there is school bus service to cater to these students.
Becoming a PV allows you to understand a school culture better and to allow you to stand a better chance for your girl to enter MCS.
By the time your girl enters P1, she will be in morning session in the holding school. I heard that there are sufficient classrooms in the holding school to cater to all levels in 1 single session. When your girl goes to Pri 2, she will be in the new school enjoying the new facilities.
One last point to add, you can expect quite a bit of homework starting Pri 1 and the amount of homework will increase with each level. This was what I heard from other parents. -
Thanks Sembgal! That’s pretty informative. What about for PV? Do u happen to know, how many slots they open up for each year?

You can call MCS receptionist at 6256 6701 to enquire about the PV for 2009 children.
I find her very helpful and attentive to my queries. -
:thankyou:
Will call and find out! Is your child already in there? -

Hi, any parents went to Marymount Convent School Carnival today? I did. My child asked what is a carnival and I brought her to one to let her experience a school carnival which will be a terrific learning experience for her. This is once in a lifetime experience for my child who is going P1 next year to experience a carnival in school, with funds being raised to contribute towards upgrading the school. Thank you MCS for this golden opportunity for my child to be immersed in such event.
Hi Sembgal,
My DD didn't go, though my neighbour who's a MCS teacher was there. We were joking that we should have let her bring my DD around!
PS: I PM you regarding English enrichment, got some questions for you, thanks!

Hi MCS mummies,
Can anyone advise if the gals can bring bags with the wheels (like a trolley)? I didn’t hear the P mentioning that during the orientation, or I may have dozed off (I’m a naughty mummy, oh dear!).
Also, have bought black shoes for my DD but she’s been complaining that they’re too stiff, so I’m looking at Bata now, but I remember the MCS P said preferably no velcro or mary jane? What’s a good pair of black shoes (reasonably priced but well - suited for running in PE?
Thanks!
PS: And the bus operator has not gotten back after collecting the info at Orientation? When will they inform us? Thanks! -

Hi, if u refer to letter dated 12 Nov 2013 that was posted to our homes on 14 Nov, read page 2, normal black Velcro or laced shoes acceptable.Hi MCS mummies,

As for trolley bags, the girls will be using staircase. If your girl can carry the trolley bag up the staircase by herself, it should be fine. Trolley bag can't be dragged up the stairs.
Have you bought the books? Bus operator said he will call in December.
