      p0o9i8:
I just when to PC site,

      Parents Volunteer Application
Applications are not yet open for the parent volunteer scheme.
The next round of recruitment will be for Singapore citizen children born in 2013 in 3Q 2017 (TBC).

When I click on PV appl form, I saw this, it means I can only sign up PV next yr. My child is born 2014.
Yes PV normally apply during the year the child turn 4 for most schools. For PCPS case, they accept application only during a window period. You can't submit earlier or after the period. Make sure the track the Q3 dates !

Another sad news received through the latest PN. It appears that with the change of new P, everything changes throughout this whole year. Been receiving nothing positive but one sad news after another.

This time affecting my younger one. Next year, P4 classes will be changed but why the need to split classes again? Isn't it better to have the same teacher following up the current P3 classes. Being together for a year now, the students are already close to one another and what more important is that the current FT already know the strength and weakness of the students. I really do not understand the need for the change.

When all or most of the other schools rank the P5 classes, ours removed it. When all or most of other schools have the same P3/P4 classes for 2 years, ours choose to change! When all or most other schools provided academic support to all students, ours scrapped it. When most or all other schools have PTM for all parents, ours removed it and keep to a minimum few.

Why must the school always be doing things the opposite way, introducing undesirable changes when the existing ones implemented by previous principals are working fine. At least, I feel that the minimum the school could do is to collect survey and feedback from parents before executing all these changes.

Before the school moved to the new holding site, there was a survey form for parents to feedback regarding the more ideal location for holding compound. We ended moving to a location less than 1km away. Majority were happy as compare to the alternative site at ITE AMK. As parents, we would appreciate if the school hear from us, understand how we feel first instead of repeatedly making all the unwelcome changes.

Change the names of the classes, we are ok because this is a change that has no impact. It is perfectly fine to change the name from 4A, 4B, 4C to 4 Apple, 4 Banana and 4 Coconuts.... or what so ever. However, for major changes that impact our child, I believe the school can do a better job and be a little more high tough. I am sure this is not too much to ask for.

I totally agree with you. Probably MORE work will be required if a survey was done. For the moving, probably the previous P will substantiate with statistics from parents and appeal to MOE for a site near school instead of amk.

When there is a change of empire, the new empire will want to proof that the previous one is flawed, hence, their improvement is for the greater good.

With lesser homework and no Remedial means working parents got to work harder on weekend with the kids. Gone are the Real quality time we are supposed to spend with them.
They got to understand that majority of the parents are working too!
If there are no ranking of the classes, I see no reason why they cannot stay put in their current class.

                Advice needed:

My DD is in Pei Chun P4 this year. Her avg results are above 90% so she should be given the chance to opt for Higher Chinese. If she was to take Higher Chinese at P5-P6, I understand that she would certainly need to sit for 2 separate papers but how about lessons? Does it mean she would need to attend additional lesson on top of the normal Chinese class or would it be 2-in-1?

                Thanks in advanced.

Totally agree with you mankiat! The stress is now on the parents. In the past, our P6 used to do relatively well in the PSLE. The number of students who were able to obtain above 250 is significantly higher as compare to the other neighbouring schools.

With no more academic support from the school plus lesser or even no homework, how are we going to maintain such standard?! The pressure is now on the parents to spend more time over the weekend and more money sending them to tuition classes. As the focus now is solely on the weaker students, I am sure there is also room for improvement for the academically stronger students. They are after all still kids and need some push from the school. If not, these students will just slacken and under perform!

Read the Chinese version of this P’s foreword. Isn’t it so well written 有墨水, captivating and inspiring. The focus is on the well being of every child.

                        Different calibre!

I absolutely agree that all the key changes should be made only after hearing the feedback from parents. Too bad that it never happen. It is indeed rather disappointing.

Though my Son is graduating soon, I can feel for you parents. Do stay positive and I am sure you are able to support your children in other ways.

If your child is having too much free time now, you can source for tuition centers that give homework or discuss with tutor to assign more work. Nevertheless, do remember to balance work and play time.
