ChiefKiasu:
I am not sure about Clan and Church Members. However there is no special privilege for communities leaders. I am outside the 2km range, we are aware that we will have to go though balloting if demand exceed supplies. I am sure the school administration are following the policy strictly for the rest.jedamum:
All 33?! Does it mean that those who managed to get in are ONLY clan/church members and active community leader?
I think mum2one is refering to those PVs outside of the 2km zone. There were 33 of them. I'm sure there were PVs in the 45 or 46 successful applicants.
I am going for the Jim Roger's route for my sons. So St Hilda's might have help to divert some traffic from Poi Ching.
All the best to those parents who are successful. (Especially the 18th applicant in phase 2B) -

Oh I see. The >2km PV mums are 'blindsided' by those clan/church members and/or active community leaders.
I think it is more of St. Hilda's having lost 30 vacancies (1 entire class) this year. This means the number of vacancies were reduced by 15 for Phase 2B. The number of qualifying applications for Phase 2B this year (79) is actually lower than last year's (86). There was balloting last year for Phase 2B for parents more than 2km. If the vacancies were maintained this year, at least 15 of these PVs would have gotten in.
The lesson learnt is that doing PV for the sake of getting into schools of very high demand is a very risky business. Historical trends can be thrown entirely off by the change in the number of vacancies by schools.
Looking forward into Phase 2C, it is even more definite now that if you stay beyond 1km from St. Hilda's, don't even bother to try for that school. It looks like St. Hilda's is targeting to open its doors only for alumni or the neighborhood residents. -
I think the most ideal route is to PV only in schools within 1km (hopefully a good school)…and hopefully have enough $$$ to buy/rent a place near that “dream” school!

This forum is really interesting and can get lots of good feedbacks especially on St. Hildas. Can ChiefKiasu advised whether i should try and ballot for St. Hildas since this is the only school that is within 1KM from my house. As for Poi Ching, I am within 2KM.

 Seems that ChiefKiasu is the 'wise-old-man' whom everyone seeks advice from regarding P1 registration.
Have you take a look at the past year's balloting stats and the current TUR to determine your chances at both St Hilda and Poi Ching? -
how come I just read from newspaper that for those stay 1km, no need ballotting for St. Hilda's this year? looks like we get some contradicting info here.....
-
The news is correct without contradiction … There’s indeed no balloting for St H at Phase 2B coz all available seats are allocated to <1km and 1-2km, with no seats left for balloting for those out of 2km.

Thanks for helping out the old man! -

ooops, thanks. Need another pair of spectacles... -
Wow… mum2one… your news was super accurate. St Hilda’s just posted its vacancies for Phase 2C => 44 only. Phase 2B take up is 46 instead of the original posted 45. So the lucky 18th did get a place in Phase 2B, but at the cost of 1 seat from Phase 2C. Considering that this 18th family is 1-2km and Phase 2C will likely involve balloting under 1km, they are really super lucky!
