Here is a list of various Junior Colleges A-level subject combination requirements.
Hi all,
just to check if the student do not study phyics in sec 3 onwards, are they allowed to take phyics in JC ?
If can, would it be very tough since they lack the phyics knowledge since they did not study in the upper sec ?
Also, with no phyics in JC, can the student take any engineering course in Uni ?
Thanks.
For Pure Physics -
If you have never taken O-level Physics before, nor its equivalent in the IP Year (3 and 4) program, students are Not allowed to take H2 Physics in JC, as they lack the foundation needed
The same, apply to Pure Bio
However, for O-level students who had taken Combined Science (Physics) and have scored an A1, some JCs allow
can check, each JC requirements

Thanks for all the information.

For those taking Combined Science (Physics & Chemistry together), ie. NOT taking O-level Pure Physics, nor Pure Chemistry, do be careful
because
some JCs are particular, allow u to take only either A-level H2 Chemistry or H2 Physics, Yes, one H2 subject only, but Not both H2 subjects, if u take Combined Science at O-level
So, if u are an end-of-Sec 2 student now choosing your Sec 3 subject combination next year, eg. COMBINED Science and already have some targeted Junior College in mind, please check the JC website for info requirements carefully, so as to guide yourself in choosing the correct Sec 3 subject combination.
Alternately, can contact & speak to the Science HOD of your interested JC directly, to find out more. All the very best ! -
Thought I post it here in case someone like me finding information on promotion criteria.
Teachers in my child school has been telling them to keep up with grades if not will fall from Express to Normal Stream. This scare the HELL of my child. Plus, this is only beginning of school where they are getting use to new environment and new ways.
I scramble to find information but didn't know what I should search for. Wrote to MOE to seek understanding but to find them return a reply, check with school. If I want to check with school then I would have done so and not approach MOE   Then call hotline, also same problem same answer. WHAT is MOE for if they can't even answer one simple question like this?
Anyway, give up! Search on internet and found the keyword to be \" Promotion Criteria\". So if you are me wondering what the grades for your child to maintain, search the about keyword. I stumble on one school that give me a gauge so must be similar to all schools. Hope this will help parents out there to explain to their child so that they don't have to wonder what is the grade they need to maintain.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear of the stress… AFAIK, individual Sec schools do have their unique promotion criteria、Sec3 subject combination selection criteria etcetera, which would be shared with guardians during ptm sessions、hard copy notifications etcetera during Term1…

Just asking if it is better to take double pure Science and 1 combined humanities and 1 pure humanities
or
take triple pure Science and 1 combined humanities ? -
.
-
Triple science class confirm have. Criteria is to get As for all subjects in Sec 2.
But I want to know the value of taking triple science or double science since JC does not allow triple science so what is the benefit of doing triple science ?
A Maths is a compulsory subject now in some schools. -
actually, the trend now is that
many schools encouraged students to take (Double Science, Double Humanities) subject combination, because even if do Triple Sciences up to Year 4, when go into Year 5 JC, still got to drop one Science subject, maximum 2 Pure Sciences allowed, excluding H2 Mathematics.
Also, by having 2 Humanities, it open up more opportunites to explore subject combination at A-level, instead of just confined to 1 humanities , the one that accompany Social Studies.
if some students already know that they want to do Engineering related courses in the university, now they set their heart towards taking Upper Sec 3 Physics, can forget about Bio, then no need to consider any Triple Sciences anymore
