      Very weird postings.

So many here assume only RI can bring out the best out of their sons. If a student is not competitive vs a vs the entire cohort in RI, there's nothing big to crow about. Compare to another high achiever who's in another very good school and has been given ample opportunities to hone his academic, cca and leadership skills, the guy in RI fares poorly.

There's no such thing as the best school only the most suitable school to bring out the best from these smart boys. RI is one among the handful.

Others are equally competent to groom your boys.
Agree:-) I have 3 boys, one each in ACSI, HCI n RI. it is so annoying hearing people say the best will go to RI, meaning?? The ones not in RI weren't good enough for RI? I happen to know people who don't want to go to RI or HCI or even both. One of my sons turned down RI's DSA offer. He didn't seem bothered that the majority of the GEPer boys in his school were headed there n I respected him for not following the herd. Quite a few of the top GEPers in his school chose HCI. Even tho I have one son in RI, it still irks me hearing comments like these. Ditto RGS vs NYGH. During my time, ASEAN Scholars were automatically sent to RI n RGS. I chose NY together with one other girl n we have never regretted it.

I have also seen a few cases of GEP students failed in their appeals to RI this year. Their T-Scores are from 255 to 263.

Congratulations for being a wise mother.

Each of these three schools you had outlined above is capable to bring out the very best from your boys. Strictly speaking, there’s no difference in the overall quality btw these schools.

Each has its own unique qualities that wise parents can discover to nuture their sons.

RI was the 1st Sec school to run the Sec sch GEP (Sec 1 to Sec 4) in 1984. The other was RGSS. As regards primary school it is Rosyth & RGPS started the GEP course (P4 to P6).

Until 2006 when the then Minster of Education felt that 500 GEP students every year was too small force rekoning that Spore could extend the 1% talents to 3% therefore the IP course and RI merged its GEP & non-GEP in 2006.
            For yr 2005 & 2006 (each) there were about 6 classes of GEP (approx 25 x 6) and 9 classess of non-GEP (approx 32 x 9).
2004 PSLE top student (who is non-GEP student) was in a non-GEP class. 2005 PSLE top student (who is from Rosyth GEP) was in a GEP-class.
Of the 500 (actually less than 500 as some of those selected didn’t take up GEP offer) Pri 6 GEP every year, boys & girls ratio is 3:2. U see that about 150 GEP boys of the total 300 are in RI. GEP student’s PSLE mean score is about 262. GEP std is there to tell.
Go to RI’s web u will see that the mean & median read as 266 & 265. u will see the toughness if u are in the road. make u own judgement. RI too has its unique cultures & no everyone can immerse.

... Parents are trained to recognize intelligence the way MOE and the Singapore society recognize it.

              a very valid point.
not just parents are trained to be like that,
              almost everyone here, almost.....

We certainly have many smart and rational parents here. I agree we cannot say which school is the best here. There are about 170 Sec Schs in Singapore and if you are in any IP Sec school , you can safely say you are already amongst the best in Singapore. It is just a matter of which IP school you want to njoy your 6 years of quality education experience.

                  Thanks for the stats...

This is why I mentioned in my post that it was for very objective reasons that we decided to try for RI though now we know my DS is not successful in getting to RI.

Just to share a bit on the reasoning...my DS has always wanted to be a doctor...thus he get to know from one of the speech from Prin of RI that big proportion of students accepted into school of med are from RI. I double check this with my sis who used to teach in RJC and confirm that they do have certain system / process that will help increase the chance thus confirming this. This is the main reason why my DS want to go RI...

Well, God's plan is higher than ours...thus we will accept any plan that come along the way and make the best of it...

                    Hi There,

My daughter score 242 for her PSLE 2010. She got St Margaret Secondary Sch. instead of Crescent Girls. The COP for CGS was 243. DOes she get if she appeal for CGS? Anyone can help me..... Very Depressed...... 😢

Dun worry, you stand a very good chance. Just be prepared that your DD may have to take up Uniform Group as CCA.

My DD was successful last year with her appeal, she got 238 and COP was 240. But we rejected as CHIJ TP has accepted our appeal with no condition.

Just to share my opinion regarding ksasalways’ comments about "a high proportion of students accepted into school of med are from RI".

When DD was accepted into GE programme, alot of well-meaning friends and relatives told us to transfer her out to RGPS and NYPS, especially to NYPS as that year, the top psle scholar came from NYPS. So I shared this with DH and DH’s response was very interesting. He said that the top girl might be from NYPS, and even if we successfully transfer DD to NYPS and if the top girl for DD’s psle year still come from NYPS, it need not be DD.

What I want to say is, proportions are just an indication, even if someone guarantee that 99% of kids from Raffles gets into medical school, there is still that 1% who will not and your child might be that 1%. Conversely, maybe only 10% of students from HCI gets into medical school, your child could just be part of that 10%.

Sometimes, things that did not work your way will spur you to strive even harder. And sometimes, things that did not work your way turn out to be blessings in disguise.

Hi anyone who appealled on 23 dec received reply already?

I appealed RVH on 22 Dec and have not received any reply yet. I want to call but worry they feed up about me. Did anyone here appeal RVH also? Let us pray together for our child. Please inform if you receive call from them. At this moment, really feel time goes very slow

I just called up RVH to ask for the outcome of appeal, they said he is still under waiting list. How long have to wait dun know yet. My DS with t-score 251+2. So sad for him to hear that. Just wonder why he is not placed in the school in the first place with his score. He was placed the option that is after this school....??????
