As a PHS alumni, I am proud and thankful that you mentioned PHS is a good school.
missed by 2 points, is a pity. It is so near, and yet so far, because No Appeal entertained, if do not meet COPrascal@work\" post_id=\"1955470\" time=\"1577331576\" user_id=\"5123:
my son didn't get into this schl for the 2nd choice but we appealed though my son cop was 234 so I reckon no chance at all he was given 3rd choice near home.
There is still chance in future, do not lose hope yet. Presbyterian High is a good school
Encourage your son to study hard, do well for next 2 years (Sec 1 and Sec 2)
One year later, at end of next year Sec 1, try to apply for Transfer into Presbyterian High.
If next year end still no vacancy, then
at end of Sec 2 ( in Year 2021), continue to apply for Transfer, into Presbyterian High.
However, I wouldn't recommend the child to transfer school after 1 or 2 years when he has gotten used to the school environment. Unless there is strong reason to do so. -
One of my PHS ex-classmates posted on Facebook saying that her son who graduated from Anderson Pri Sch has been posted to PHS. Everyone including herself commented that the school badge remains the same after so many years and the feeling is very nostalgic. Many of them said that she can pass the school badge and any unused exercise book to her son
One of them told her that someone from our cohort is now a Maths teacher in PHS. -
Hi snoopy81,
From the info shared, u seem very knowledgeable about PHS. If I am not wrong, I guess that you are a current Senior ranking school staff teaching / admin, inside PHS -
for students who are seeking Transfer into PHS, can read about the successful Transfer case into PHS, here

apart from usual DSA domain Leadership, guzheng, etc
what are the niche Talent development programme, inside PHS ?
\"Forensic Science and Pharmacy\"

Hi phtthp,
Hi snoopy81,
From the info shared, u seem very knowledgeable about PHS. Curious, are u by chance, a current Senior rank school staff teaching / admin, inside PHS ?
Thank you so much for the compliment. I am neither a teaching nor admin staff in any primary/secondary/JC school and have never been one before. However, I have a friend who used to work as teacher and admin staff in a secondary school which belongs to the same cluster as PHS. Her work required her to interact with teachers and admin staff in her school and also other secondary schools belonging to the same cluster including PHS. Hence, she had shared with me some info.
As a PHS alumnus myself, I recently attended PHS Open House by chance and got in touch with one of the teacher I knew. He could easily recognised me and I was surprised that he is still teaching in PHS till now. He informed me that there is a homecoming event for PHS alumni this year which I look forward to attending.
Besides that, I also have some friends whose kids are enrolling / about to enroll into secondary schools and there are much discussions on this topic among us. -

Hi Chloeong,
Thank you so much for your feedback.zac's mum\" post_id=\"1956606\" time=\"1577859612\" user_id=\"53606:[quote=\"zac's mum\" post_id=1956606 time=1577859612 user_id=53606]
Congrats!
Presbyterian High School is a good school, and very near the MRT.
Kuo Chuan is probably very similar and indistinguishable from PHS. Not worth switching again unless KC is literally at your doorstep and your child can walk home.
Both are affiliated to SAJC.
We also like PHS because it is sheltered all the way from the MRT and it also offers Economics as O-level subject. My child also interested in its Forensic Science programme.

I agree with u
Taking GCE O level Economics subject (exam code 2286) indeed is a wise choice, for Y2022 Sec 3 subject combination, as it build from scratch a strong foundation later on subsequently for your H2 GCE A level Economics subject, come Year 2025.
In Junior Colleges, subject combination like BCME or PCME, are highly popular. The \"E\" stands for subject Economics
\"B\" : Biology
\"P\" : Physics
\"C\" : Chemistry
\"M\" : Maths
However, since your son has already stepped foot into PHS through successful 2019 Appeal Psle Transfer, also wish to let u know in advance that, for Express stream,
if your son is taking GCE O level Economics, he is only allowed to take
(Double Sciences + Double Humanities ) Upper Secondary subject combination,
because
PHS school doesn't permit Triple Sciences (pure Chem, pure Physics, pure Biology) subject combination to go along with Economics concurrently, at Upper Secondary (3 and 4). Going forward, whether there will be changes from current practice, yet to tell
Taking Economics open up a field of opportunities, to study finance, investment banking, actuarial Science, etc later on in university
here is 2019 SEAB O level syllabus for Economics subject (2286)
https://www.seab.gov.sg/home/examinations/gce-o-level/2019-gce-o-level-syllabus-for-school-candidates
above, is useful information, for all 2020 Secondary 1 students (born 2007), admitted into PHS
For those interested in \"Forensic Science\" (FS)
2020 Term 1, PHS school will let u settle down first, adapt to the new school environment.
After settled down, sometime in Semester 2, for those who express strong keen interest in FS, training will commence in Sec 1 (Semester 2). FS Training will continue, into Sec 2. During training, the training attachment venue can be at a Polytechnic or a sponsored external company outside.
Note, for FS training at Secondary school level,
school will let students get exposure to various type of crime scene simulation.
Eg,
can be a pre-meditated murder, eg. someone meddled with the car brake, but \"disguised\" as a car accident, so students need to be observant at the crime scene, look for clues and evidence, have a sharp keen eye for detail, with a good memory to remember details well, before derive conclusion. Under no circumstances will students have any chance to study dead body corpse autopsy taken from mortuary, because the training exposure is limited to Secondary school level, ie. Junior level only. To study forensic autopsy, that can only be done at University level on hospital ground, where students must first have studied Human Anatomy before, have Biology background
After u have studied Chemistry in the initial first 2 years (Sec 1 and 2), have built a good foundation in Chemistry, come Sec 3, ready to start Pharmacy training. One cannot start Pharmacy training, if understanding of Chemistry concepts, is weak. Out of more than > 100+ Secondary schools in Sg, PHS is the only Secondary school, that offer this niche unique Talent development programme -
Hi phtthp,
Thank you for these useful info. My son intends to take PCME.
He actually wants to pursue a career in Digital Forensics. Hopefully, studying this traditional Forensic Science would provide him some knowledge of the process of investigation… -
Hi phtthp,
The info you shared are very detailed. Are you an Education & Career Guidance counselor?
In my opinion, I would also prefer my child to get into a school that offers Forensic Science subject. Most schools offer Robotics or Coding which is very common. If I am not wrong, there are private schools out there that teach Robotics/Coding too. In fact, as an IT professional, I am also teach my child coding. If I can travel back in time, I would still chose to go PHS as Science was my strongest subject back then and I would also be interested in Forensic Science. -
hello, can I know what are the subject combinations available for sec 3?
i am trying to find out more information from PHS website but unable to.
hope parents or student from PHS can help
Thanks!
