Thanks d1s2 and wonderm. I hope that is the case. DS prefers RI (although I feels that HCI suits him more than RI, DS is the friendly and easygoing type).
If that's the case, then let him follow his heart and interest, unless by judging from your description and my experience, he is those that follows his friends almost blindly.
Since many people are offered by both RI and HCI, and maybe also ACSI and NUSH. I don't think ALL of those with multiple offers will choose RI. RI could have estimated number of people who will give up their CO and gave out WL accordingly. That could explain why RI WL is shorter than other schools, and it could also mean those given RI WL have the same high chance of getting it?wonderm:

I also thought that WL for RI would have a lesser chance but last year, all of my son's friend's (about 5/6) who were on the WL for RI were all offered places. My son and a few of his friends gave up RI and chose HCI instead. -

can u tell who is the one making the decision in his associate of friends? if that person is not your son, then you will probably need a heart to heart talk, understand his strengths and weaknesses, and chooses the school yourself

Very true. A lot of my child's classmates are being influenced by each other and the whole class is like a battle of propaganda between the schools. 3 major \"sects\", RI, HCI, NUSHS tries to pull the most classmates to join them. Quite a lot have been wavered by NUSHS' Module System and HCI's humanities. For now, there, as far as my son tells me, a stalemate
Really, i thought propaganda was only between HCI and RI, have not heard of any propaganda concerning NUSHS yet. HCI and RI are strongly against each other as they compete for the best \"A\" level results each year, dont know why your child told you about NUSHS being in the equation as well.

Science?

Science?
I also heard that HCI's Humanity Programme is very strong, some RGS girls applied to join HCI in Year 5 for that. On the other hand, HCI website says \"Hwa Chong Leads the Nation in Mathematics, Science & Project Work at 2009 GCE A-Level Examinations\"

Yes that's correct. RI is rather well-rounded and is very famous. It is extremely useful for a recommendation for lawyers and doctors.

No, not exactly true. The accelerated syllabus and the module courses is what that interest my son most. And some other very influential pupils, as I suspect, are leading the fight for NUSHS. Young people their age are incredibly vulnerable to such techniques, as they view themselves as \"grown-ups\" and don't really care for elders' advice and are young and indecisive enough to fall for the techniques, making the society of the class largely power-based. Fortunately, my son does not fall under any of the above categories.

I am from HCI personally and have not heard of any propaganda messages about NUSHS at all.

At the Open-house Day of RI, the principal proudly said that 2/3 of the lawyers of Singapore are from RI. But perso I do not like that.
