No one sharing... ?Would like to check with RI students or parents here, whether there are regular on-line lesson and assessment weekly for the students. Personally I feel classroom, hardcopy worksheets and textbooks still a good mean to build foundation while e-learning could be minimum and as supplement. However it seems some schools moving on to more e-environment of learning and homework submission having more and more students engage in internet gaming tor wasting time on facebook, etc. thereby become under performers. Glad if anyone care to share what current RI learning/teaching environment is like ?
During the open house, DS and friend was so excited about the school having open free wifi that they begin to browse internet or visiting their favorite websites . I also observe students playing handphone games at the canteen. But unsure if that is the growing culture and kind of environment there currently? What kind of control does the school impose on the students? Or just leave to them? Anyone can help facilitate more insight? -

One semester has passed, and the FIRST e-learning exercise which DS has been assigned to do was the one scheduled last Friday (no lessons due to Staff Day)..Would like to check with RI students or parents here, whether there are regular on-line lesson and assessment weekly for the students. Of course, DS goes on-line (FB) EVERYDAY (after school, at home) to chat with and get updates from friends of various 'groups' (CCA group, project group, class group, level group etc).. AND, not to mention, speaking on his mobile phone sometimes, while on-line.. I always tease DS 'wow, you seem like doing BIG business hor'..
Don't understand what you meant by 'what kind of control does the school impose on students'.. Did you mean confiscicating their mobile phones? As you have mentioned, you saw the boys using their mobile phones in the CANTEEN on Open House Day (not in the classrooms during lesson time), so isn't it better to 'just let them be'?
Think it all boils down to self-control and self-discipline.. Somehow, the better the schools, the less control they need to impose on their students.. -

Can't agree with tuition_czar more on this. DD is in RGS, and the competitive spirit is enough to spur her w/o teachers' 'abmonitions' or us parents imposing our 'ideals'. Guess it's the same in every other top-notch school - IP or otherwise. The kids in top schools have more than enough stress from their competitive peers to \"motivate\" them and keep them on their toes, consistently working hard.
That is why the teachers don't really have to push and threaten them to move forward. -
Two weeks of school holidays have passed by.. Anyone has gone for holiday overseas? We are not going anywhere for holiday this June.. DS has hardly touched his books for the past two weeks, is it normal? I hardly interfere with what DS1 does, as I am focussing more on DS2 this year.. Hope I am doing the right thing, though...

That is no cause for worry .... it takes about half a year for the boys to settle in -
are the swimming pool and tennis court open for public booking?

Come on.. you don't even know us  ... We RI parents DO NOT lose our minds so easily and scream at our boys.. Our boys have worked so hard, mostly by themselves, and they have made it to RI, so what more do we ask for?firefly38:

What if we told you otherwise? Would you lose your mind and start screaming at the boys?
Learn to relax. Things have a way of working themselves out.
If you have bothered to read our earliers posts, you would have realised that we would always have our little PRIVATE conversation from time to time.. to share our joy & our concerns for our boys, to give moral support to each other & our boys, even to get silly at times and have a good laugh at each other or at ourselves.. -

Let’s not get too personal here. Open posts are for everyone’s benefit. If there is something PRIVATE, perhaps a better suggestion is to send PMs - that’s what they’re for.
