i’ve become a SAHM for 1mth plus…at times regret…but no turning back…I’ve got 3 kids, oldest gal turning 6, boy turning 4 and youngest 13mths…i find it very tiring to handle my youngest (even with maid)…he always disrupt my plan, like when i’m teaching my elder two, he will insist on joining and my maid not able to distract him…headache…plus i find that after turning into a SAHM like relationship with mum in law a bit sour…can someone motivate me a bit so that i won’t feel so regretful…

    • RE: All About Full-Time Maids

Hi, appreciate if someone cld help me to clarify the following please:

My Indonesia maid’s work permit is gg to expire come Jul this year, passport is still valid until year 2014… If I wanna extend her service, i need to renew her work permit with MOM, do I need to go to Indonesian Embassy? I remember the last time I renew her contract, I’ve to go embassy with her (but that cld be due making of passport)… this time round, her passport is still valid, can I skip the embassy part, I.e. Just renew work permit online and draft work contract with her privately (without embassy’s presence)? I called MOM helpline to ask if renewal of work permit need to go through embassy, they ask me to call embassy… The embassy line is always engaged if not the person dun understand English…

I am gg to increase her pay by 20% with the renewal, but it’s still below the revise starting salary of new Indonesia maid (ie below $450)… Is it ok? I’m worried that the embassy may force me to revise her pay to $450 (ie if I need to go embassy to renew her work permit)…

My maid is gg back to java for home leave (if she intends to renew her contract with me), do u think she will back out if she discover from her relatives in java about the revise starting salary and break contract with me by not returning from home leave? Is it more worth it for her to break contract with me and rejoin a maid agency and have a starting pay of $450 or more (since she got work experience here)? Or this is not feasible as there are underlying costs involved If she goes thru agencies again?

      Thanks in advance!

Hi guys, if a tenant keep failing to pay rental on time…wat are some of the avenues that the landlord can take to repossess the premise?
Hi Admummy,

I have a helper at home, and currently staying wif my dad. Outsiders may think i hv such a good life, SAHM, still got helper and dad ard 2 help...

BUT 4 me, i rather do without a helper. And u knw staying wif ur own parents or inlaws, bound to hv conflicts here and there...

As my #1 is super clingy 2 me, I cant tk care of my #2 most of the time... Due 2 siblings jealousy, both my #1 & #2 start to \"fight\", beat, scold each other.. I hv 2 be the disciplinary master to separate them apart, reasons wif them etc.. (As if my #2 knows, ha...) and at the same time, hv 2 eye power the helper.

If u ask me stressful anot, i would say so far not stress 2 tk care of kids. (i hope so!) it is the helper issue tat mk me stress... sometimes i tink back my bad temper mainly due to having a stranger at home which i dislike the idea of having one @ home in the the beginning but due 2 some reasons, we must hv one. i tell hb tat i dun wish 2 hv helper ard but hb wan cos he is often not in SG..

My typical day starts wif taking care of my 2 kids (milk, bathing, lunch, afternoon milk and nap 4 #1, dinner, bedtime milk, sleep,#2 will be handled by helper for the afternoon milk and nap, bedtime milk and sleep).

Will bring both downstairs walk/play either in the morning or evening.

Seems like nothing much but all this little chore here and there alredi take up most of my time. I can onli go online when both nap.. Other than tat, i will be bz taking care, reading, playing with them...

My friends all encourage me that I can do without a helper since I'm alredi so hands on wif my kids even I got helper @ home. BUT I worry is the kids who fall sick. If hb not ard, then how...

But due 2 some issues wif my helper, I more or less conclude tat i will do away wif her once her loan finished.. No point keep a helper which I tink i can do a better job than her.. I mean afterall it is my hse, helper wont sincerely do a gd job... Sorry if i offend any1 here who hv helper...

      Admummy,

tink u can be SAHM since ur 2 kids r in CC. U oni need 2 handle #3. Hw old is ur #3?
Dearzen,
thanks for sharing ur experience with me...its really ironical feeling...on one hand you need a helper to \"stand by\" for emergency, on the other hand, her presence affect your emotions....hope u'll find a \"balance\" soon once she's gone and good luck...

for me, my helper is indispensable due to my no. 3 who's abt 11mth plus...since he spent almost the entire day with her while I'm at work, he is obviously more attached to her....that's one reason why i decided to SAHM coz my son like dunno who's the mummy already....

as for the 2 elder kids who is turning 6 and 4 next year...except for the usual quibblings and occassional fuss, most of the time they are joy to be.....my plan is to switchh them to 4hrs enrichment class I become SAHM. I wanna bond and teach values to my kids personallly.

currently got many things to plan before i tender...all the logistic and financial plannings...i am really very scared of the new role and challenges i am going to face soon....finger cross that i will not regret...

      MMM:
      Koalamummy,

This is what we do :

      8.00 - 10.00 pm Homework/ revision for kids
      10.00 pm - 10.30 Reading
      10.30pm Bedtime

We do this with 2 primary kids and 1 pre-schooler.

Usually do it from Mon - Fri. But given that we are near exams now. This schedule also works for weekends.
MMM, for the elder children who are in primary school, what do they do in the morning before going to school? Currently, my kids attending full day at childcare center so i just need to \"worry\" abt them when i return from work...I wonder how to arrange their time table when they reach primary school..from wake up till going to school, unsupervise...have thoughts about quiting my job when my gal reach pri 1 but many of my colleagues think otherwise...they said pri 1 shld be ok as long as got my maid and mil supervising then shld be ok.....u guys/gal think coaching is essential when kids reach primary school? at which stage do u think \"parent intervention\" is necessary?
