RE: RI Maths Competition
Sorry typing mistake , i know that Nan hua P6 Maths Olympiad Training is by Maths Hub but the P5 Maths olympiad training is by another enrichment centre Bcoz Maths hub does not have enough teacher to teach P5 Math olympiad in Nan Hua Primary . i heard my boy’s classmates say that the question set by enrichment centre was to simple , probably because they are in the ( mainstream top class ) . My boy goes directly to Maths hub Enrichment Centre those questiona are very challenging . he says that 50% of his Maths hub classmates are from Nanyang Primary . Actully , many student from Nan hua go directly to Maths hub too . some of them start from P1 haha… really kiasu .javascript:emoticon(‘’)
Of course , the school’s math olympiad is cheap ( $100 once a week for 4 months Only ) i think is still not enough for training bcoz is very short time .javascript:emoticon(‘’)
But maths hub is whole yrs class so they maybe more professionar . ( per term 10 lessons with 2hrs per lessons $ 440 ) -

RE: All About GEP
ks2me:
Thanks for the explanation. It is great to know that there are schools out there which bridge the learning process for their good students. The labelling is not important but more importantly, the bright kids, not up to GEP level at least get some exposure to similar learning process. Do you know if this twinning program is unique to this school only or applicable to most GEP schools?
Primary Gifted Education Programme (GEP) (Primary 4 to 6)
School Nature of School
Anglo-Chinese School (Primary) Boys
Catholic High School (Primary)* Boys
Henry Park Primary School Co-ed
Nan Hua Primary School* Co-ed
Nanyang Primary School* Co-ed
Raffles Girls' Primary School Girls
Rosyth School Co-ed
St Hilda's Primary School Co-ed
Tao Nan School* Co-ed
* Special Assistance Plan (SAP) Schools which offer only Chinese Language as Mother Tongue.
From 2008, all 9 primary GEP centres introduced initiatives to promote greater interaction between GEP and non-GEP pupils, allowing them to learn, work and play together on a daily basis.
The integration models proposed generally take one of 2 forms:
Integrated form classes comprising GEP and non-GEP pupils. The form class will have common lessons for all subjects except the school’s GEP core curriculum. GEP pupils attend separate classes for English Language, Mathematics and Science. This model is implemented in Nan Hua Primary School and Tao Nan School (BiCEP classes) for both Primary 4 and Primary 5 in 2008.
Separate form classes for GEP and non-GEP pupils. Pupils will be pulled out of their form class for combined lessons in Art and Crafts, Civics and Moral Education, Chinese Language / Higher Chinese, Music and Physical Education. This model is implemented in the other 7 centres for all Primary 4 classes in 2008.
All 9 schools will continue to provide enhanced opportunities for greater integration through schoolwide activities, CCAs and community involvement programmes. :celebrate:

RE: About the STELLAR program
Hi All,
Is any parent out there went through the STELLAR program with your children?
As this program do not have textbook, I've tried my best to search around for information but no avail.
Your sharing is very much appreciated
hi ks_me ,
i was told by a teacher of a school during their orientation last yr onwards MOE implement to all schools, some schools already started to test out this year. I've also checked with a friend who is the HOD of English in a sch and she confirmed this also. Which sch your child will be in. Or maybe the school is doing it in parallel. maybe you would want to look at this link, to read about the programme.
http://www.stellarliteracy.sg/cos/o.x?c=/wbn/pagetree&func=view&rid=20699
But this link seems saying that year 2010 then implement. In Phase 1, in 2006, 30 schools were invited to pilot the programme. For phase 2, in 2007, an additional 31 schools were selected and for 2008, another 32 schools have come on board. :celebrate:
hope this helps -
RE: [Novena] Primary Schools
We are a Finnish family who has just moved here for to stay for 9 months. We have a daughter who is going to turn 7 this week and a son who just turned 3. Our daughter speaks English (not perfectly), our son doesn't. We would like to find a local school for our daughter and a playschool for our son. We live in Maplewoods Condo, Bukit Timah Road. We are not that interested whether the school is one of the top schools. We just would like to give our children the opportunity to learn about Singaporean culture, get some local friends and learn more English etc.
hi karpai ,
Have you tried DANZHONG Primary school AT BUKIT BATOK ?
I know there is vacancy at DANZHONG Primary school. u can call them to check it out. Hope this helps . -

RE: [Clementi] Primary Schools
hi anyone has parent volunteer experience in Nan Hua to share? Is Nan Hua Primary affiliated to any association or clan? thanks.
hi irisnet ,
if u SAHM . , you can choose long hour duty , like children's day , sports day , big event in school , a least 4,5 hrs . 1) regular activities which needs PV help .eg ,buddy reading ,librarian duty ,canteen duty or help out in school excursion. 2) ad-hoc activities eg , during P1 registration ,excurision during school holiday , special school event lise sports day teacher's , children's day ,carnival day etc......Usually the school will have a cgannel of communcation to the PV group so when need.
you can try to find previous PV of the school to understand how the system works , also when you sign up for PV, talk to the person-in-charge to see if you can dig out more information about what kind of ' duties ' are thrown out to the PV group . or PM me
i understand that if you have IT background or skills , it would be a advantage and the Principal is interested in school projects managing a project from A to Z ( includes funding if there's shortage ) eg , can be science project , aviary project or any kind of project .
Nan Hua Primary NOT affiliated to any association or clan.
Well that was from my experience .Hope this helps . :celebrate:
