My son is year 1 NUSH now, he was also NMOS Silver not Gold. He's also AL1 in Math & AL2 in Science (although his languages were surprisingly both AL1 in the end).

Your son's SPSO will help too, we didn't even know how to attend SPSO (not from MOE school).

Does he stands a chance to get in NUSH? Shall he applies for Maths or Science? His P5 final exam, Maths scored AL1 93 and Science AL2 88. But his languages didn’t do as well. Both AL 4 and AL3. Overall AL10.

He self-learned python and C++, practiced on Leetcode, Codebreakers, Mr Judge, Google kickstart.
He attended HCI HCIC and got a platinum.

He was from a neighborhood school, but won few top math medals.

Also to add, he is currently ahead of my son (see https://dzuizz.com) in competitive programming (my son is also Platinum HCIC and doing all the platforms mentioned except Google Kickstart which is only officially open for 13 yo and above).

In https://codebreaker.xyz/rankings (informatics olympiad training platform built & currently used by NUSH HCI RI students), my son is in Top 100 while ychennus’ son is in Top 75.

They’ve been silently sparring without telling each other 😂

What personal learning device does the child need to buy? Is WiFi provided to the students on campus？

NUSH uses Windows laptop (not great news for Mac users like us), as they put some protection & tracking software in it (should be discussed in this forum also in the past).

We can choose between laptops issued from the school or buy/bring our own Windows laptop. The latter is recommended if you’re very concerned about laptop performance, but that means $1-2K laptop to budget for.

My son was so happy, in an interesting timing because he was in middle of crying and sad due to some other thing and I was teaching him to be emotionally strong, and then suddenly the news came as his classmate who also got accepted called him over Whatsapp to go check.
