This sounds like a definition of “KiasuParents” 😄
Yes, fully agree with lassie girl. Because
once Academic test content questions have been leaked out,
those testers who set qns, will have to set tougher qns, next time round.
End up, future subsequent batches of P6 DSA short-listed students will face tougher DSA test qns.
Example
Last time,
I had no idea, no clue as to what English (RI) domain DSA test, is all about. In my mind, I was thinking about reading up all the good essays that one can possibly find, of \"competition\" standard. It didn't occur to me, to start considering from the angle of ... poetry written.
But today, I know.
Focus on analysis of poems written. That is good enough, a direction to set me towards to concentrate upon. One might counter-argue :-
Oh come on, you won't know which poem, RI is going to come out, to test your child on that day. Never mind, because I can easily hire a professional English ( language or Literature) home tutor, to prepare and start teaching my P6 ( son or daughter ) , all the skill set necessary required in poem analysis -

Haha same… My son insisted we shouldn’t discuss the problems, and especially that he knows that I WILL share to others when I have such info.
My DS commented NUSH science is tougher than RI science. NUSH math was relatively easy, mixture of PSLE and MO type qns. Hard to dig out much info from him.. he even told me, NUSH trs said don’t discuss the paper.. that’s how he shut me down, when I asked further..🙄 -

When he came out from that hours long test (he went in 12pm, starts perhaps 1pm, a long break in between, came out 5.30pm), he immediately said “Maths was very easy, Science was very hard”. He also said “Maths problems felt like PSLE (style)”, not entirely sure what that mean. Will ask more.
Whats your son's feedback about nush science test?
Science test he said there’s a lot of questions that give additional new context/knowledge first, things that are completely new for him but given as information, and then the question asks for analysis, conclusions, what’s right/wrong, etc.
I think it means testing “Scientific methodology”, not “Scientific knowledge”. -

This is RI Math right? 16 MCQ/short answer + 3 long form problems x 3 sub-problems each.
Son said there were 16 short questions and 3 long problems. Short questions relatively doable and long problems similar to this year's RI olympiad second round. (Marks given for not only the answer, but correct working as well).
My son said NUSH Math was all short forms and there were many questions (he didn’t remember exactly but about >20 questions). -

Thank you! I do wish it to be useful for the next ones, as I couldn’t find it, let me be the last 😄
Thanks for a most generous sharing of the exam format. Many have asked, and I believe you are the first to have provided the answer. Hope your kid did well for the NUSH too. -

Thank you! Fingers crossed on the results.
Congratulations to your son, on the
NUS High \"Maths\" test portion. He has done very well (clap hands
How about the \"Science\" portion ? How does NUS High test, beyond PSLE Science syllabus ?
Can give one example (Science qn) ? Thank you.
Sorry wasn’t clear, I was explaining the RI Math DSA. My son is currently at NUSH doing the Math & Science tests. As all the RI ones are given alternative time arrangements by NUSH, taking it in the afternoon 1 pm - 4.30 pm. Intense back to back. -

Answering my previous curiosity:
Now that we are preparing for RI DSA Math test this Saturday, I wonder if any parents here can share what does the test typically like? Perhaps based on your children's experience, those who went through the test in recent years.
is it more like RIPMWC where the problems are super hard that just getting 9 out 20 correct already puts you at top 3% (this was what happened for my son's RIPMWC)?
or is it more like SMOPS where there are plenty of problems, reasonably medium to hard, but there's just not enough time (so it's more about testing the speed of solving)?
or is it more like NMOS where the problems have hidden insights with which the answer will become easy? (so it's about testing \"thinking out of the box\")
or is it more like SMO Junior where it's actually for Secondary students level of math olympiad?
or is it more like AMC8 / AMC10 where you have enough time to solve all problems and it's about getting as close to all correct as possible?
or... is it gonna be IMO style where students have to write essays of math proof?
My son did RI DSA Math this morning, and he’s now doing NUSH one in the afternoon. According to him, the format was:
45 minutes Section A of 16 multiple choice questions.
He said he couldn’t do only 1 because he ran out of time. He said the problem was: “2022 and 1314 when divided by d gives the same remainder r, what is the maximum possible d-r?”. We discussed briefly and immediately got the insights, so it’s really due to out of time only.
This means the Section A level in my estimation is similar to SMOPS question 11-20 or perhaps also 1-10.
Then the answers for Section A are collected.
Followed by 45 minutes Section B of 9 essay problems with workings & proofs need to be written down.
This means it’s unlike any other MO, except perhaps RIPMWC Round 2 & NMOS Special Round, which very shortlisted few could have experienced and would have been top contenders in any DSA Math anyway (if not already given red carpet early CO).
Although interestingly first thing my son said was: surprisingly Section B was easier than Section A. Hopefully he’s right (and not overconfident), which means perhaps the test is about ability to write mathematical arguments, which is essential towards IMO.
Will share update about NUSH DSA tests too later, wish him luck! -

Perhaps unique to Madrasah, my friend who's a Gov primary school teacher was also surprised to hear that.
Prelim oral so soon and on a Saturday?

Yeah, understandably to prevent leakage from morning students to the afternoon ones.
NUS High has replied. Alternative timing is 1-430pm on 2 July. Students must report latest 1215pm before the morning batch is released.
However, this results in another problem for my son 😅 as he also has PSLE Prelim Oral at school, which was already shifted to afternoon. Now we're yet again asking for the school's kindness to shift again.
