• RE: Comparing Enrichment Programme versus Private Tutor

      Cherry Lee:
Both group and private tuition are equally good. It greatly depends on the preference of the child and which type of environment they are able to learn better and effectively.

I believe the main factor is the teacher...

Consider this.. if the teacher is good for 1-1.. but in a class setting he cannot address all the questions promptly for the students... then the students cannot benefit as much..

If the teacher is good for 1 to many.. but in 1-1.. he gets sleepy.. or is too strict on the child that affects learning... then how?

My nephew had this problem... he attended a tuition class.. had a very good teacher there.. and secretly hired him to teach him 1-1.. but in 1-1.. he wasnt' very effective..

Hope you can use this to consider... my 2 cents

    • RE: Where to find Bakeware/Baking Ingredients?

      AdonciaTang:
I buy my stuffs for baking at phoon huat too.

Same here.. I buy from phoon huat too..!

But not all phoon huat is the same.. for e.g. the one at AMK is more well stocked than the one in Hougang central.. but the good thing is they are all usually quite friendly, and the items have product code so it's also easy to call up and ask..!

Not being a wet blanket.. but i feel that whether you are left or right or mixed handed.. it is just a way to write your thoughts.. it does not help to build your thoughts or intelligence..

      ycer:

My children went to Telok Blangah CC and they love it so much. Manage to see their brochure. It cost S$65 (for Passion card member) with 12 session. Every Saturday 8pm-9pm. It can trained the children in:

Music and Sound, Eye Training, Deep Relaxation, Asanas (exercise), Pranayamas (Breathing), enhance memory power, improve reading ability, reduce hyperactivity, promote Better Posture and improve Concentration. Even my boy (5 years old) just stand aside to see the sister doing the yoga. He is also trying to do and follow. He really enjoy it and want to go again.

Hi ycer, may I know more of the class, i.e. instructor's name, class name, then I can try to request for opening of class. Thanks in advance šŸ™‚

Indeed the instructor is more important than the CC.. as what I've heard the instructors in CC are all having their own schools outside, and are just doing instruction in many of the CC's depending on the contract..

Any contacts who know of Yoga in Kovan area? I'd like to find out more for my girl.

    • RE: All About English Speech & Drama Enrichment

      chantuan_lim:
I'm looking for a SD for my girl too.. but i'm pretty torn between choosing schools..

One reason is that I feel that while native English speakers can deliver the lesson better.. I definitely do not want my girl to be in a school where it's all native English! Somehow i still want to retain a bit of locality in it..

Any reputable.. locally run SD programmes? I stay in north-east.

Update for parents who may be keen... I've given up on searching for good locally run SD programmes.. instead just went ahead to try Lorna Whiston at Parkway...

Will see how it goes.. whether my daughter can take native speaking instructions or not will be seen soon.. But still looking for recommendations.

      Thanks!
I really like the puppet shows idea by simkhoo! encourage designing, narrative writing, imagination and confidence in speaking! Speaking of scrapbooking, I have an idea that I've got by browsing through other sites, why not make a photo book? like, make it a theme, of their journey, collect pictures from when they're born till now, it gives them a view of who they are? you can let them decorate/design/write captions it themselves. If you want to publish it professionally for keeping/memory sake, you can do so with P;log (http://myplog.co/#)/(or visit their Facebook) Browsed through their website, and some of their concepts are really good, you can browse through to get some ideas!

Other than that, you can try googling easy crafty activities, I'm sure there are tons of ideas out there!

This seems quite nice eehhhh! Have you tried it yourself??? :goodpost:

Which are ou referring to - puppet shows or scrapbooking?
I love the idea of the stage... it is a bit of Speech & Drama and also art too.. very interesting..! maybe I'll build a stage with my girl one of these days hehe..

    • Hyperactive child run about uncontrollably.. what to do?

Hi parents, want to share an incident that I witness recently.. and want to hear your thoughts.

I brought my girl to a trial class at one of the enrichment class recently, and there was another boy who was in the trial too.. After the trial class.. the boy does not want to go back.. even after much coaxing from the parent and the teachers.. he still refused to go back! He was throwing tantrums.. rolling on the floor.. running about the place!

After about 30 mins.. with things smashed onto the floor.. and even queue stands falling all over the place.. he finally managed to calm himself down.. and left the place.

The boy appears to be hyperactive.. and cannot control himself.. and when he throws tantrums.. he creates a situation where he could possibly hurt himself.. and others!

In such situations, what do you think we should do? Should bystanders help? Should the school teachers help? What if we hold onto the boy to prevent him from hurting himself.. instead we hurt him? Who is liable? What would you do if you saw this happening?

Wish to hear your thoughts.. šŸ™‚
