Anyone tried baa baa black sheep? It's before tessarina/ brewerkz and heard from colleagues that it's nice,,

it's pretty good but odd opening hours. Like 1 pm for the north Indian n the western food stall is closed for lunch except on weekends. The thai stall opens early but the lady there has the most sour face I've seen!

Forgot to mention Crown Centre next to King’s Arcade with pizza hut, Himalaya Kitchen, En Japanese, and Hanabi at King’s Arcade too. You’ve got to be a student with a big allowance to be dining at these places too often!

Most of the nosh here is very $$. Some people like the wanton noodles at 6th Avenue, but it's only so so. Oh, opposite Hwa Chong, there's Ivin's - very good and relatively cheap Nonya food.

that's not exactly opposite Hwa Chong- it's further down Bukit Timah nearer to Tessarina n it's a pretty long walk in.

Loads of food here - Coronation Plaza (My Cosy Corner for popiah, nonya and jap food with student meals at cheaper prices) and another restaurant (Prince Coffee House has pretty affordable food like hor fun, chicken pie and western food) , Coronation Arcade (Thai Noodle House has student meals too), Penang, Penang, Curry Wok and a coffee shop which sells chicken rice, noodles and economy rice. Burger Shack by Island Creamery at King’s Arcade is just next door but pretty ex. Xin Wang, Starbucks and Huber’s Butchery right next to Coronation Plaza. Mad Jack’s for western food and a new Thai restaurant at the row of shops near the Duke’s Road police station. MacDonald’s , Island Creamery, La Petite Cuisine at Serene Centre, Da Paolo, Simply Bread and another pricey burger place at Cluny Court, more expensive restaurants at the row of shops between Coronation Plaza and Hwa Chong - Choupinette for French, Culina, Old Brown Shoe. OPposite Hwa Chong there’re lots of restaurants at Greenwood but they’re expensive except for a coffee shop that serves Malay food, wanton noodles and economy rice. Lots of coffee shops at Sixth Avenue though, just a short bus ride down. The food served at the Hwa Chong swimming pool restaurant is good and very affordable. You’re spoilt for choice!

HOw about De Dietrich? There’s a shop at Centrepoint next to Robinson’s can’t remember what floor. Mine can bake, grill, microwave, etc. Lots of functions.

if you live in the west, there's this small stall tucked between 6th avenue and bkt timah road...same coffee shop at ashton and opposite denise the wine shop.

Must warn you that it's the dark sauce version plus quite atas coz finish all supplies close shop for the day. 😛 Enjoy! :celebrate:
Yes, I like this one as well as the one round the other corner along Anamalai that's run by an old lady and her daughters. She's much less atas and serves yong tofu too.

    • RE: School Bags For Sec 1

Ds1 uses a Nike backpack which I got from Royal Sporting House for $80 : http://www.ebags.com/nike/team_training_xl_backpack_with_max_air/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=133849

Ds 2 uses a Victorinox all black backpack which is very hardy and is great for files. Boring but can't go wrong with all black. Ds1 didn't want it so it got passed on to him. http://www.victorinox-travelgear.com/index.php?p=97&i=7304

He used to use this JanSport which is a great bag for school with lots of compartments but he didn't want to use it for sec school so his younger brother's using it. http://www.jansport.com/js_product_detail.php?pid=TEC4

    • RE: Hwa Chong Institution (High School)

      JustKP:
My DS brought back a piece of paper entitled : 中一语特课程(算一科目的分数)。 Anyone here knows what is this all about. My DS says is LEP (chinese), but I thought LEP is part of CSE which starts in year 3. According to him, if you do well in it, it will help in your chinese language marks and vice versa. I would like to know how long do they have to stay on this course (i.e. Year 1 only or throughout the 4 years or ....)? What if they can't cope, can they drop-out?

If you have any details about this, appreciate if you can share it here.

      Thank you.
I had a look at my son's Chinese papers and must say they're pretty tough and I'm pretty worried if he'll be able to cope. My son didn't take HCL at PSLE although he was from NYPS and had to go through the GE HCL syllabus which I thought was really tough. Do all boys do HCL in HCI? Maybe I should ask the school if he's doing HCL or normal Chinese?? Do they even have normal Chinese classes??

    • RE: Lasik

Yes, they really know what they’re doing so I definitely felt I was in good hands. Dh said nothing but the best where the eyes are concerned n he was the best at that time although lots of other doctors have acquired lots of experience by now. However, Jerry Tan’s still very careful and still does one eye at a time and I like his conservatism. He could save himself lots of time by doing both at a go but he won’t. Most of my friends went to him and i’ve not heard a single complaint.

And yes, he only does Lasik on certain days of the week and there was a reason for those days too though I can’t remember now- something to do with the follow up I think- basically it was in the patient’s best interest. I don’t know if they’re ISO certified, but they are so well organized you get the feeling nothing can go wrong- his wife, a doctor herself, even held my hand during the procedure!! She said even men are scared haha!! Good luck with yours!

Had mine done by Dr Jerry Tan several years ago and told dh it’s the best present he gave me:-) v happy with the results and service of dr and staff. What I really like is how thoroughly they prepare you for the procedure by briefing you extremely thoroughly so you know exactly what to expect during the procedure and what you should and should not do. I also like the fact that he does one eye at a time and does the non dominant eye first and observes how you body responds so he can do an even better job on the dominant eye.
