Jetsetter, that's very encouraging for the new IPJC students, nice of you. :please:

If we can turn back the clock, to have the full information we have now, when these students & their parents who opted to join the new JC knowing well that they will never have a chance to step into the new JC compound and the temp site would be at Mt Sinai instead of ITE Bishan, likely, we won't see so many parents feeling fustrated today.

A freind of mine told me she had to travel very far to a temp site during her time when her school was under renovation. Nobody made a noise because the school did not promise them a nearer temp site and later switched to one further away so there was no expectation. She said her school did not owe her anything then but now this case is different. There is a total absence of transparency and accountability.

Do the authorities have to honour their words and address your concerns if they have their reasons?

Look at those property owners who are promised 99 or 999 years of land leasing and but still have to relocate due to some unforeseen government's projects.

Agree it is not a matter of honouring their words if there are valid reasons to the problem. These are just angry words. Not listening to the property ownners does not mean they should just continue not to listen...are we living in the imperialism world? The resolution can be open for discussion by first understanding the impact on the people affected, especially when there are 2 changes in the announcement. Allow the aggrieved people to make their case and the authorities to convince them.

I am sure the authorities did listen to the affected property owners' grievances in those cases but were firm in their stance for the benefit of the majority in the nation.

Shouldn't the affected parents and pupils seek their respective principal for explanation first? We are talking about three school leaders but none know the exact situation nor 'fight' for their students?
How do u know they didnt do anything?
Yes they towed the line ; hands are tied .

      MOE informed:
      http://www.moe.gov.sg/media/press/2012/11/release-of-2012-psle-results.php

\"IP students from CHS, CHIJ SNGS and SCGS will spend their first four years in their respective secondary schools, before they progress to a new government JC in 2017. For the initial batches, the new JC will operate at an interim campus to be located at the current ITE College Central (Bishan Campus). The interim campus will be fully furnished and equipped with the necessary resources for students to fully benefit from an enriched IP curriculum. More details of the permanent site will be released later.↩\"

Thank you. My bad, never read fine prints. Please forgive me.

Then the authorities need to honour their words. It is both written and verbally communicated.
Yes a dialogue session is necessary in all the cases.

Well, it did regain its ranking and admittedly, HCI is one of the top schools by any measure. For it to regain its preeminence, perhaps we can try a social experiment to move RI to Tuas and measure the impact?
Did it go back to the undeniably no 1 position when it moved back ?

and by the same logic , if the new JC is at Mt.sinai campus, it will become the top JC? :scratchhead:
We are digressing and I am afraid you are deliberately playing the devil's advocate 🦆

Mt Sinai is a superb location and probably is a nexus of positive energy which probably explains why RJC has done so well. 😂

In reality, there are many factors that contribute to a JC's academic success, not least the school's leadership, the teachers, the school culture, support from the authorities and the location. Assuming that all the other factors remain constant, any change in any factor may have an adverse impact on the school's academic standing. For a brand new JC without a proven leadership, without a coterie of teachers and a strong culture, even the best location may not turn it into an academic success overnight.

What's worse, this episode, minor it may seem, call into question the government's commitment to build this new JC into a top JC. Compared to the long-term efforts and resources required to build up a new JC, sticking to an already committed interim and permanent sites would seem the least of the worries. And yet, already we are tripping before the new JC takes its first step. All that the affected parents are asking for is clarity and certainty on things that are seemingly within control.

Aiyah, where the new IP JC is located is really none of my business. I'm just taken back at some of the arguments thrown forth, and some distorted facts.

#1 Mt Sinai is too far away. We've been promised a JC in Bishan.
-> Nothing was officially made known about the location till early 2014. Whatever \"hearsay\" you heard doesn't hold water.

#2 Mt Sinai not enough LTs. / We don't need LTs.
-> Mt Sinai has enough LTs. JCs need LTs.

#3 Cannot walk fr Buona Vista MRT to Mt Sinai site within 10 mins. 20 mins is not acceptable walking time.
-> But i didn't fly nor run to RJC in the morning. Perhaps i have longer legs? Even if it is 15 mins stroll, you mean our youngsters cannot take it?

#4 No sheltered walkway from MRT to school.
-> How many schools in Singapore have sheltered walkway from MRT right up to the door steps? Granted some have, but not every one has.

#5 IT'S THE DISTANCE! (Yes we heard that loud and clear)
-> Yeah MOE advocates distance. But what have parents been telling MOE? That distance doesn't really matter if it is a good reputable school. Look at the students who attend RI. They don't just stay around TP, Bishan, AMK. They stay in Pasir Ris, Jurong, Sengkang, Marine Parade too. And that is the same for HCI / NJC / VJC / DHS. And since this new IP JC is supposedly going to be another top JC, it's supposedly going to attract students from everywhere.

It looks like whatever solutions is implemented / suggested here will not satisfy the parents unless the JC is back in Bishan. Should just name the new JC \"Bishan JC\".

It's here. Really here. Not at the end of Mt Sinai.
      http://i61.tinypic.com/2lc9sh5.jpg\">

I m an affected parent. Since you are an unaffected parent and do not have full information, please refrain from making unconstructive comments.

The reality is even for the first batch, the Bishan vicinity was communicated . Parents and children have made their decision on distance amongst other factors. Many staying nearby have forgone choices of other top schools.

Now as the forum writer pointed out, there were multiple boo boo by various agencies but these were never admitted to. Parents want a meeting with the decision making authorities but has not been granted a fair audience . Please try to put yourselves in our shoes and don't rub salt into our wounds.

It is not my intention to rub salt into your wounds. I'm just stating some facts.

Didn't you say \"Isnt this forum meant for discussion and airing of views. If you are offended by people having different views, then don't contribute to the discussion.\"

When other people air differing views, it becomes \"rubbing salt into the wound\". 🤷

Don't make it like you are the first set of parents affected by the relocation of schools. Thousands of parents have experienced them. Some of the students also had no chance to enjoy the new renovated school facilities. The worst hit are the primary school students, half of which are probably too young to take public transport and are at the mercy of the school bus drivers. Here we are talking about JC students, who should be independent enough to take public transport.
Don't make light of others' situation and downplay just because you are not affected.
