Perpendicular is looking at the relationship between the lines. Therefore there are 3 sets of unique perpendicular relationship.
The 3 pairs / sets are:
AB to AE
AE to AD
BC to CD

The above was explained by DD2's Maths Teacher to her

In other words, a rectangle has 4 pairs of perpendicular lines, and not 2 pairs as mentioned by ChiefKiasu earlier.
