Oh I meant p1 in 2020. Means my child has to contine with current school and transfer after 1 year? 😖

Yes, you will have to continue with current school and seek transfer later. Also, transfer is not guaranteed or immediate, there will be a waiting period and subject to vacancies as well as school’s decision. Given that most GEP schools are also popular schools, you have to be prepared to wait for a long time.

Yes. What you can do is to get your younger old document ready. Once you know your elder one posting, go to the posted school to submit transfer request. Seemed like P1 2020 will be harder as the school would already have a long wait list.

I live in the west, considering nan Hua, Henry park and nanyang. I think that's all the schools? Which would you choose and why?
My elder is in p5 gep, no news for my younger one this year. But all kids are diff. 😄

During the gep briefing, you can checkout with their booth, can be there earlier so that have more time to roam around. For my elder, during his year, was told by nanyang tt normally almost 2/3 will be taken by their own students. So location and the order of choice is important if you want some of the more popular gep school.

      Hi,

I would be moving to Bedok Reservoir Road from March 2012.

I realised I had been a bit late when I start calling some school today and realised that Bethesda Katong and St Hilda’s kindergarten had no more vacancy for N2. I am a SAHM, and hope to find some few hrs to 1/2 day sessions for my son. Is there any other recommendation?

How about Zoophonics Siglap or any recommended PCF there?

      Hi inspirer

Can I have the contact info and school fee for Kids ‘n’ Kids School at 1 Lorong J Telok Kurau as well?

      Thank you so much.

      Hi teapot,

I would like neighbours to tell me too. But for my neighbour, I will have to see how close I am to them. Some people don't like neighbours to be too kaypoh.

      peapot:
      Hi mummies!

Do you like your neighbours to tell you what they saw your maid do when you are not around? I prefer it that way because my neighbours become my ally. It's abit like crimewatch. Your neighbours help you to keep a lookout incase maid brings home stranger or engage in funny acts in the playground with children etc. But there are a majority of us who feel that its none of our business and we don't meddle in other people's household. So its really a shame. I m also guilty of it. For example I see my neighbour's maid who will talk for hours after her employer and child left for school and work. Not even sure if I should let the employer know. Worry the employer will tell me \"never mind lah, only talk what!\"

      hello,

I had finally selected the maid and she will be arriving in Jan.

Just wondering how to I start off with Day 1?

With the ground rules, telling her where to wash her stuff, and give her the toiletries. Introduce her to the family members…

What other "orientation" I must give her?

    • RE: All About Full-Time Maids

Thanks Peapot! Yes I am hiring a filipino. My agent will be putting a 3 way conference call tomorrow.

I must learn to adjust the view.. my first time and I had been bad at managing people as I am too soft hearted. My hubby wants me to learn how to manage the maid. Trying to learn now.

      peapot:
      Hi Icycandies,

My guess is your maid is filipino? Yes it is normal to interview over the phone. Sometimes, there are people over there helping them out with the interview especially if they put on speaker phone over at the other end. I think its normal to ask her why she is single, afterall she will be staying with you. You don't want any problem like missing home.

I also ask my potential maid whether they have boyfriend. Like what other mummies in the forum mention, we must learn to be \"heartless\". If you view your relationship with your maid as strictly business, you won't have such feelings like \"paisei\" or worry she's upset etc. Oh ya, list down house rules like what the other mummies do. Get the maid to sign. That's what I intend to do too.

But don't worry too much as you are a SAHM. You can still keep an eye on her. Imagine I m a working mum!! There's no one at home except the maid and the child. I don't have any in-laws too. They passed away. So, if I can do it so can you. No worries!

    • RE: All About Full-Time Maids

      hi all,

reading all these stories really made me really scare of maids, but I had to hire one because my 2nd baby is coming. Anyway I am a SAHM so hopefully things are better control. It is my very first time hiring a maid.

I had actually select 2 maids and then my friend with me urge me to interview them. I had read Tamarind’s blog on the list of qns that I can ask (Its very useful, thanks Tamarind!). Actually it is a normal procedure to interview maids over the phone? What other things I should look out for?

One of my shortlist is a single mum with a 1 yo boy. Will i be intruding her privacy if I ask why is she a single mum? She seemed pretty good in the video that the agency showed me, so I am taking chances that either she be very responsible becos she is the only one supporting her kid a/o husband… or it might be another extreme…
