if the school say the PSLE batches are all transferred students, which they’re not responsible, are they referring to those P5 and P6 transfers students ? there again will there be people who transfer at such a high level ? i seriously dont know. Are these students those who are not academically inclined ?

I know of a few new schools which started with just a few classes of P1 and P2.
Does this school starts with transfer students from other schools ? Which is quite funny, in my opinion.

To disregard PSLE results for the next 2 years - meaning the year 2012 and 2013, I believe. Doesn’t affect my son.

Does anyone knows the teaching attitudes and methods of the teachers ? Are they effective and caring and has the students been able to understand what the teachers are teaching ? Are the students happy learning in the school ?

Generally how are the learning/ teaching atmosphere in the school ?

I do hope that it’s a positive and encouraging one !

Appreciate parents sharing their experience with me. And any do’s and dont’s for the student and even myself pertaining to this school.

My son is from Edgefield Primary, next yr in their top class. And its a neighbourhood academic school.

My reason is simple, my son who used to be bright and bubbly had a rude awakening at the normal nearby school. Thus, he had change since P1.
He was once a very bright, thinker. But thru our moe usual method moulded by moe workers, his mind was moulded according to the shape they wanted to be … I felt so sad.

Thus, he is now in North Vista. : )

I want my son back ! I want my son to enjoy learning, and experience what real learning is. Not some rote learning nor practice, practice, practice …

By the way, anyone knows how many students in a classroom ? I heard somewhere they have very low student teacher ratio …

i successfully transferred my son to NVP for next year P3.

Does anyone knows whether they have any high ability class ? and how are the seating position for P3 ? Anyone has children there P3 and above ?

I also heard they have very low students teacher ratio … which sounds fantastic to me.

thirdly, how much pocket money do u give yr kids for recess every day since there are 2 recesses.

Now I understand why some of the locals just ignored me when I try to ask for directions ! A few times actually! And I was pissed off !


One particular incident, I was walking with my son trying to walk towards French Concesssion. Stopped two young guys ( wearing business clothes ) trying to get some help. One plainly ignored me ! And another stop to help ! Being SIngaporean and Chinese I expressed my dissatisfaction :rant: w the other guy, but his friend who's more polite ask me politely how I need help ! This guy's probably smarter ! Seeing that I'm holding a map and a kid in tow !

His friend a real idiot ! But now I understand his reaction.

However, most of people are very friendly and willing to help !

I just came back from Shanghai last Thursday. While my hubby works, we went out on our own ! Taking the trains and even joined a day trip out to SuZhou ! It was my first time to China and come to think of it, I was alone with my 8 yrs old son the first time in another country !


Scary ! ha h ah never think of it ! ha ha ha

Just sharing my experience here, and just realised how blessed and protected we are ! Thank God ! YES, I pray fervently for blessed journey and protection for self and son in CHina !

Just to share some safety cautions hubby always taught and mentioned to me.
( his job entails him to travel a lot )

1. never leave yr bag to \"chop\" seat in another country ! We should not do this in our own country too ! There are too much other foreigners around !

2. never walk in small allay, just cause its a short cut !

3. ALways walk in broad daylight where there are a lot of people.

4. use a clutch bag. If using a haversack, put it in front of you.

5. HOLD our son's hands !
- additions of my own ! -
- my son must always use the ladies toilet if we're out on our own,
I DONT care that other ladies complain ! I do explain to my son my reason.
- If I ever hold his shoulders, he must always stay close to me !
And never shirk away ! Refering to CHina traffic ! Its scary !
- He must always tell me if he ever wanna go anywhere, except by my side !
- When I call for him, he must immediately answer and run to me !
- When I say, he can only play at a certain area where I can see him !
He must be only at that area !
- If I ever sense danger or potential danger for my son, my face and demeanour changes instaneously no matter the situations or country !
( i'll make sure that \"potential \" danger will sense danger from me ! )

Maths

My son is pretty strong in his Maths. Th reason for my worry was that his Maths tutor from Tony Buzan ( last year ) did warned me that P3 and P5 Maths has a vast difference.

From what has been said, I'll just leave his Maths alone, while coaching him on the side. I'll probably have to pick up a Maths book on Bar Modelling from Popular.


Science

I'd ordered the Young Scientist for him to read, but he doesnt seems to be very interested. sigh ........... All he cares about are his wars, history of Napoleon etc etc etc and how they fight and SUn Zi strategems of war ..... :stupid: :x


English

So far so good, mummy \"coach\" him on daily basis on his speech, vocabulary, grammar. As for creative writing, I'm trying to pick up some materials and teach him


Chinese

I'm totally helpless here. Thank you everyone for giving me specific ideas such as tackling his weak spots of Chinese ... I'll have a talk with his Chinese teacher and ask for feedback ...

I'm just wondering; is it necessary to tuition Maths and Science at P3 ?

As I was going thru my son's tuition fees on a monthly basis, and looking forward .... does he needs to go for tuition for MAths in Science next year ? Cause it might means we'll have to set aside higher tuition fees for him next year.

I know it may be a bit early to talk about this, but, I'm just preparing myself and hubby, emotionally and monetarily on the commitment.

Is it really a need, a must, or actually not necessary ..... or just good to have ? :?

Can someone kindly enlighten me on this ?
