May i know what is the literature set text for rg sec1? My fwen lost her book list :wrongmove: :wrongmove:

I've asked a junior, the literature book for sec 1s next year will be \"Gathering Blue\", the sequel to \"The Giver\" by Lois Lowry (which we did this year). Should be fairly reliable?

Hi! Is it necessary to hv mobile data plan for students hp?

No. Why would you need it in RGS? Most people i know don't have, unless you have an iphone. You can always connect your phone to the school wifi if needed.

Hmm you can't connect your phone to the school wifi .-.
But Year 1s will have their Macs next year..

May I know at orchard mrt station, which exit do I take to transfer to bus number 190?

I don't remember clearly but it's exit C or D. You'll have to go in between the MRT station and Wisma Atria and walk all the way up to the back of Orchard ION, and then you would have to walk all the way to the right for the traffic light to cross the road for the bus stop. There should be carparks and stuff along the way (and people smoking) and when you cross the road there are only trees .-.

The bus stop is called Opp. Ngee Ann City if I recall.

hi šŸ˜„ I have a 13-inch MacBook Pro and I do all my work entirely on this laptop šŸ™‚ it is very reliable and as long as you don't overheat it like I did once, it works perfectly well. But do remember not to leave it on sleep mode for too long!

I would suggest getting a 13-inch MBP since although it is a little on the heavier side, it is very convenient (my friend burnt a disc for her 3rd language project using the MBP on the day it was due) and you don't need to transfer anything over to another computer - there's enough storage. šŸ˜„

not saying that you should do last minute work though xD
      Your Mac overheated? O_____O\"
How did that happen? I never turn my Mac off unless necessary. It's always on sleep mode .-.

Kaeshion, thanks for your reply. Could I check one more thing - is it necessary to get the SuperDrive (external DVD ROM)? Thanks in advance.

      Merry Christmas !
If you have a PC/another laptop that has a CD Drive then I think you don't need to get one since you can transfer the install files via thumbdrive but if you don't and you do not intend to install many applications through CDs, then you can just borrow one from a classmate if you need one for (let's say, MS Office installation). Even if you buy one, you don't have to bring it to school.

      Merry Christmas :3

      Thks Kaeshion,

Your feedback is very very useful. Can I also check with you other than MS Office, and all those to start up the use of the laptop when it was first bought, is there any other application software that is required by the school that you had to get Sapura technician to install for you?

The cable you mentioned is the thunderbolt right? How much did you pay for it?

I understand about the unpredictable access problem with the internet. It is unfortunately, normal. I'll teach dd to turn on hotspot using her phone 3G to access the Internet when reboot fail, but I thought you are not allowed to use handphone in class so how do your friends that have Internet access problem the whole year tackle this problem?
If you're buying the laptop from Sapura they'll all be installed the moment you purchase the laptop. Such applications are Garageband, iMovie, Audacity etc etc. You install the MS Office yourself, since it's an optional purchase.
As for the cable, I didn't purchase it but I heard it's pretty expensive, around 60 - 70 bucks or so.
Well they bought the mobile broadband (the internet sticks). It provides internet service from an external source (Starhub etc.) I heard they were fairly expensive, but well for me I managed to use the school's network throughout the whole year. The internet access in J Block (the Year 1's classroom block) is fairly decent compared to the rest of the school.

Oh and I have another question regarding CCAs!(: Is there a chance I will get into Girl Guides if I have no prior experience in that CCA? I've got a few Good Service Awards and I participated in CIP in Pri School actively if that helps...

      Thanks!
Personally I think that everyone has nearly equal chances to get into the CCA, but I've checked with my classmate who is in Girl Guides.
She's never been in any UG, never gotten any awards and stuff but she got into Guides anyways, but I think it helps a that you've been serving the community and stuff. They will put you through an interview but they don't really ask about any CIP or service awards you have.
So if you don't have any awards doesn't mean you have no chance too haha. I wish you luck! All the best šŸ˜„ I'm sure you can make it.

Hello everyone! I'll be joining RGS next year and I'd like to ask if there is only a specific colour of hair accessories or jackets allowed in RGS? Hope my question doesn't sound ridiculous... Haha(: Thanks!

For hair accessories, you're only allowed to use black hair accessories (but I used to use dark green but no one booked me, but yes please use black).
For jackets, any normal jacket is fine šŸ™‚

So far, how reliable has the Mac been? Does one need to constantly \"run\" to the helpdesk to ask for help? In case of breakdown, does vendor try to resolve the problem asap since the Mac is needed most of the time?

Also, is the Mac Air sluggish as comapred to the Pro? I'm asking coz still deciding between the Air and Retina Pro (but pro is aboyt 300g heavier).

      Thank you for any advice!

I am also interested to know how often in your x number of years there do you have to run to the in house help desk and for what reasons. TIA

Well..the 1:1 programme only started this year so well in my 1 year I've never needed to approach the Sapura technician at all but usually when I see my classmates going to them for help it's usually (if not all) regarding the internet connection. It can get a little difficult at times as there's quite a few configurations to make to connect the internet and well, sometimes it refuses to connect for no particular reason at all. Usually a restart does the magic, but I once had to renew my DHCP lease.
But I've had friends with issues with the internet for the entire year though. In the end they just brought their own mobile broadband.
Generally you'll only need help once or twice, if any at all.

Can any Seniors with 13-inch MacBook please help to feedback if you do all your work entirely on your laptop or do you switch to your home PC and link it to your laptop somehow?

      Merry Christmas To ALL!
      Have A Blessed New Year!
      Hello šŸ™‚ Merry Christmas šŸ˜„
I'm using a 13-inch MacBook Pro and I do all my work entirely on my Mac even though I have a home PC and another Asus Windows laptop. It's preferable to do all your work on the Mac so that you dont have to transfer your fies here and there using thumbdrive/email etc. Also many of our project work makes use of Mac Apps such as GarageBand and iMovie. And I don't see why you shouldn't! Unless you want a bigger monitor screen, but you can always get the cable to connect to the huge monitor šŸ˜„
