    • RE: Travel: Taiwan - Taipei

      keroppi:
We're thinking of travelling to Taipei next week (the usual itinery to sun moon lake/toroko gorge, kaoshiung) . I am wondering what the weather condition is like now, so that I can pack the right clothes for my kids. Is it cold and rainy? Thanks.

      Hi,

I just came back from Taiwan one week ago. The first day weather were good and we could enjoy the beautiful scenery, but the subsequent days were drizzling the whole day, it was rather inconvenient. It is advisable to bring the the water proof jacket with hood.

    • RE: Airline: Cathay Pacific Reviews

      Hi,

I had in a way good and bad experience during my trip to Tokyo by Cathay. When we departed from Singapore–> Transit at HK –> Tokyo, the pilot was sicked, thus they needed to fly another pilot from HK to Singapore. The flight was delayed for 2 hours and we were given lunch vouchers. When the flighted arrived HK, there was no connecting flight to Tokyo, we were given free accomodation at airport hote, dinner and breakfast vouchers. As my first night hotel in Tokyo would be paid during check in, thus I have no loss if we did not check in. On the other hand, I saved 1 night accomodation for 3 rooms (we travelled in a group of 6) in Tokyo and we had travel insurance compensation of $250 per person. At the end, the loss is actually the gain to me.

When we departed from Tokyo –> Transit at HK –> Singapore, again the flight broke down and it was discovered by the pilot when it was moving on the runway. The flight turned back and all the passengers were asked to get down. We had to wait for the next plane, which delay about 5 hours. No insurance claimed as it did not meet the minimum 6 hours delay.

    • RE: Hotel Booking Websites

      Hi,

Just want to share this. I booked Taiwan hotels using Agoda and Hotel.com. Due to the itinerary changed, i cancelled 2 hotels. Even though the cancellation is free, but I lost quite a bit in the exchange rate difference. The booking was SGD400, but the cancellation refund SGD380 and it was only after 1 week. The amount in TWD is still the same. I think it is due to the buy and sell rates.

    • RE: Travel: Taiwan - Taipei

      Hi,

I just came back from my Taipei 8 days/7 nights trip last week. The trip was fun and I was so blessed that my 21 months old baby and all the 7 others in the tours enjoyed themselves too. Our itinerary : Taoyuan --> Tai Chung visited Fei Jia night market --> Dahu strawberry (not the season, thus no strawberry to pluck), Shengxing station, long teng bridge etc.. Cing Jing --> Sun Moon Lake --> Taipei.

We engaged this driver, his particular is as below. He is really good and helpful. His service really impressed us, but one thing that I was not satisifed was he assigned another driver to tour us around Taipei area when we reached there. The other driver is also ok, but not as good as him. He will ensure that we settled down, checked in to the hotel and all the luggages have been loaded to the rooms, then only left the place. He bought us milk tea and fruits for us to try along the journey. He is a stable driver, very good for family with elderly and young kids. If you want to engage his service, please specify to him that he will be the driver.

    • RE: CLUB MED

      Hi,

Depends on whether you would like to go for sea sports. The sea sports will close from Nov to March/April. I went to Bintan Clubmed twice, Dec and April. Dec weather was cooling, but the sea was rough, thus only stayed on for land activities. April weather was humid and hot, but sea was calm and suitable to go for sea sports.

    • RE: Cruise - royal caribbean

I just came back from Royal Carriean 3 nights to Malacca and Penang with my 2 kids, age 10 and 12. The ship is Legend of Seas. This is my 3rd time went for a cruise. The first 2 times were Starcruise Virgo and Starcruise Aries. Comparative, I prefer Royal Carribean. In term of facilities, Starcruise is better as it has children fun pool, while Royal has 2 pools, indoor and outdoor, both are adult pool. In term of service and food, Royal is better but you must go for dining at Romeo & Juliet restaurant. This was reserved during we booked our tour. The table number is shown on the boarding pass. Every night, you will sit on the same table, with the group of guests and same waiters/waitresses to sercve. The overall dining experience was very good as the food was fantastic and the service was personal. The drawback is you will need to sit with other guests. In term show, Royal is better. Overall, I prefer Royal to Starcruise. In fact, I planned to go again with my 3 kids (plus the 11 mth baby) for 4 nights to Phuket by Voyager of Sea. This is a bigger ship which has ice skating, in skating, rock climbing etc... Should be more fun. BUT BUT BUT..... I was very dissapointed :stompfeet: with Royal as they charge every guest the same price regardless the age. For my 2 elder kids, I am acceptable but I am not willing to pay the adult price for my 16 mths (by then) baby whom does not consume anything at all. Due to this, I will give it a miss and will consider go for Cherating Club Med.

After the experience with my daughter in this year psle, I am getting more stress as I wished my son would do better in 2013 psle, so that the mother does not need to go through the painful of appealing process.

    • RE: Langkawi or Gold Coast??

I also think that GC is an a vinous choice, if budget is not an issue. I have been to both places. GC had so much attract the kids as it has a lot of attractions, like 4 worlds, nature parks, tambourine national park, tropical fruit, whale watching if you go in June/july etc… The weather is good. While compare to Langkawi, nothing much except underwater world, cable car, island tour, waterfall.

    • RE: [Jurong West] Tutors/Tuition Centres/Enrichment

Hi, I sent my daughter to xue er you this year and was taught by the principal, Mdm law siew mei and she was good. My daughter was quite weak in Chinese and did not expect her to score A in psle Chinese. However, the principal only taught P6 and O level classes. I will enrol her and the son to the tuition centre next year, but will by other teachers. Though not sure about the quality, but willing to give a try.

    • RE: CLUB MED

      Hi,

The best weather should be before June as after that the sea sports might close due to the rough sea, but it depends on what type of activities you intend to do. I went there last year Dec. There was no sea sports, but my 2 kids enioyed the place so much as it has lots of other actitivies that would fully occupy us during our 5 days stayed. The food was nice and service was fantastic. It is a very relaxed place and the best thing is no planning is required, just book the accomodation date and the ferry timing online, make the payment and all done.
I used to be the travel planner for all the holidays we went as we like free and easy. The hotel reservation, itinerary planning and logistic planning were all done by me which was rather tiring. That’s why I appreciated Club Med Bintan so much and planned to go other Club Meds.
