my ds score 230 (4As), not sure should he applied for SJI where he is affiliated. Need advice from parents here.

For the past 3-years, the COP for affiliate to SJI was 238..
If lower than that.. Best is to go by appeal & follow by put it as 1st choice

      Hi,

Went to SJI today and they have opened up their Appeal Process till 4 Dec. One source (the right hand) tells us that u can try but if based on academics alone, he says ds will be immediately rejected but he also says the board will consider based on affiliation, whether u are a catholic, your husband an old boy, CCAs and leadership achievements and of course putting SJI as 1st choice.

Another source (the left hand) never mentioned any other considerations except if ds has anything less than 236, u will be flatly rejected and don't even bother.

With regards to IP track in SJI, it will be offered in Year 2 and 3.

      Hope this helps.

Sorry. I am pretty \"Sua Ku\". May I know what does the +2 mean?

      TIA!

It means a Merit in Higher Chinese. A Pass gives you +1, a Distinction gives you +3. But this only applies to SAP? schools. I can't remember if it applies to only SAP, or only non-SAP.

Thanks Skyed. I guess that won't be in my DS results cuz he is having difficulties in even mainstream Mandarin and Mandarin is my family's kryptonite. That language will prob pull his scores down cuz he is doing relatively well in his other subjects. All High As. Haiz.....

Oh no...After reading all your comments. I am getting paranoid and worried. DS doing his PSLE this year. And these T-Scores, mean scores, nationwide cohort's results affecting total aggregate is making me have butterflies in my stomach.

Honestly, when did it become this bad?? My heart is beating as though King Kong is banging it like bongos!

To the kids who didn't do well. Here is my mantra to my kids.

Never give up on yourself cuz Daddy and I sure as H*** haven't and never will. Never let anyone make you feel bad about yourselves! Always do your best and always be happy. There will always be disappointments in life but it is how you deal with them that matters cuz it will change your course!

Hope this helps and do look forward to the future! šŸ™‚

      Hi Mr Ding,

I have not visited this thread for quite sometime. Sorry did not reply to your queries. For teachers quality, most of the teachers are china teachers , and they speak very good mandarin. For the material quality, I do not have any other Chinese enrichment to compare , but the materials follow closely with school syllabus. The service of the staff there are very good too but I am not sure of other centers. They also allow your child to sit in to another class if you miss your regular class. The fees are reasonable too. For your info, both my children are still with them. My dd surprisely still score very well in her school exams. But her Han teacher ever told me that my dd standard in her class was only average and she was surprised that she can scored very well in her school exams. I think I will still continue to put my children in Han unless their grades drop.
I am thinking of enrolling my p5 ds in Hans at the Khatib Branch. His CA1 paper was super bad. According to his teacher, his standard is that of a P3 thus he is always doing a \"catching up\" game. Was reading all your comments and can't help noticing that the HLC teachers don't seem to encourage/praise the students even after doing well (see quote above) but instead promote their other classes to further improve the language of their existing students. So I am a little hesitant now cuz I believe teachers are suppose to have passion and nurture the kids.

      Hi Mummies,

Have you packed your daughter's school bag yet ?
I followed the 'What you need to know for Week 1 of school' orientation booklet. Wondering if I should put in the files as well. My girl asked me, 'Can you help me carry my bag?'
I haven't even wrote her name down. Been putting it off ;)-

      Hi mummies,

Anyone dd taking schoolbus to school? Any idea is there schoolbus to bring them to school on the first day in the morning? Because my dd's classmate mother says the handbook written we have to bring them to school ourselves. :? Thanks.
My DD is taking school bus but I will be bringing her to school on Day 1. I think your DD's classmate's mother got it wrong. In the handbook, it says to indicate on name tag like so if taking school bus from first day onwards:

      Registered Bus No. ______
ABC TAN (DD's name) 1 HIBISCUS (DD's Class)

If separate arrangement, than indicate as so:

DAY 1: Sent home by parents (Side Gate)
DAY 2 onwards: Registered Bus No ____

It is on Pg 8 of the Pink booklet called \" CHIJ Primary (TP) Orientation, What you need to know for Week One of School\".

In no page did they say it's a must for us to send and fetch our DDs.

      Hope this helps.

      Hi Mummies,

I'll be getting uniform for my daughter this week...would need your advice how many white blouses and PE attire to get for her next year (P1). Since she has to wear the blue pinafore everyday, I will be getting 3 sets of that...but don't know how many for the rest. Need your advice asap. Thanks. šŸ˜„
      Hiya,

I am going tomorrow. As my niece is in IJ TP going to P2 next year, asked my sis for her advice. She said to buy 3 pinafores, 3 blouses, 5 PE T-shirts and 5 PE Shorts as she makes my niece wear the PE shorts every day cuz my niece and my daughter sits very unladylike šŸ™‚ Also she bought 5 pairs of IJ socks but I think that is optional. I will be doing likewise but I heard she spent almost $200 for everything.

Got a shock cuz it didn't cost that much for my son when I bought his uniform when he was in P1. Hope this helps as a gauge.
