Hi my DS is in P3 and I gave been monitoring the progress since beginning of this year. it’s the exam period and unfortunately foundation is very important. I neglected this aspects in the first 2 years.
He had been attending group Chinese and English enrichment class but the results is not there. Was thinking of getting a private tutor next year instead of group class but the challenge is in finding the right tutor.
I have to cut back on work and coach him on Maths etc but English and Chinese is very difficult to coach especially composition. DS is typical kid where I have to sit down and watch him study… It gets very frustrating and tiring especially when stressful work adds to it.
Any tips to help such student? Have to start coaching to make up for lost time.

RE: Stressed parent
I think we need to try a few methods and see what works best, for the dishonesty part, it is the same for my son, telling us he had no homework. End up as punishment for lying is no ipad/iphone for weekends until he does homework first. Its very hard on parents but no choice, character building is very important at this stage. Lots of parents share about having schedule and the more crucial part is enforcing it. But I will give it try and help him at this stage where possible.

RE: Stressed parent
I have difficulty motivating my ds as well. In P3 this year but am worried about his attitude cum results. Really boh chap type. One to one interaction helps although tantrum is there when I took away the iPad or iPhone. Will be doing a weekly timetable to help him to focus and to relax.
Also considering to cut down on work and to focus on him. It’s better to start early Rewards system helps but will need to know the weak spot. -

RE: NLB's ban on children's books depicting same-sex families
One positive thing that comes out of this whole saga is that it magnifies this potential risk to parents of young child. Whatever agenda that is present should just leave innocent kids alone. How will a 3-7 YO be able to distinguish bad or good behaviour? Kids just want love and concern from parents.
Personally I am not in favour of having their young minds being influenced at such an early stage, although I am not against any individual whom may have a different lifestyle.
The source of this problem is why is public fund used to purchase such books placed under "children" section? Why was this only highlighted due to complaints? One of the 3 books were deemed "challenged" in the United States. If purchase as reference for parents then this hooha will not be there. It spells down to process but I am glad that it is better late than never. Busy parents will not be able to screen through all books read by kids especially when they are independent readers. But we need to have a basic assurance that books in public libraries are suitable for very young kids.
