Kinda of like if you want to be part of the upper class, make sure you send your kids for enrichment/tuition throughout their student life. Imo, the richer folks are more relaxed. The main reason why their kids do well in their studies is because they can hire the best tutors, most expensive enrichments lessons and more often, for their kids. Poorer students like mine have to rely on mummy, who has to rely on sites like this for help in doing their schoolwork. :lol:Not all students from rich background who attend numerous enrichment lessons and have the most qualified tutors do well in their studies. I believe how well a student perform depend on his/her attitude towards learning. Obviously, if one has support from tutors and enrichment lessons, he/she has an easier source of help compare to another student who has to depend on himself, guide books and school teachers. Ultimately, the willingness to put in extra effort and a positive learning attitude is essential to a student's performance. My son though in Sec 1 IP and surrounded by many PSLE high achievers in his class, has a 'easy going' learning attitude with no high aspiration unlike some of his classmates. He is not stressed and is enjoying his secondary life. I used to fret and worry constantly he can't do as well as his classmates. But after understanding my son's learning difficulties and lowering my expectation, I am trying to accept his limitation and abilities. There are kids from his IP schools who did well in PSLE, came from well to do background but because of their learning attitude, have been doing badly in their studies. Some of these kids's behaviour stems from different reasons such as lack of parent support (not monetary but emotional), reluctant to accept they are no longer the top student just like in primary school, force by parents to study in the school, peers influence in computer gaming etc. A few became depressed and needs intense counseling help. I believe parents' support and involvement are very critical during the child's primary and secondary school life. Family background (HDB dwellers or private estate) is not as critical as imparting of right values and attitude in a child. HOW WELL YOU HAVE DONE ACADEMICALLY DOES NOT EQUATE TO SUCCESS IN YOUR FUTURE LIFE! WHAT IS SUCCESS TO YOU? :?
