RE: Bringing Kids to the Zoo/Night Safari/Bird Park
Imami:
Hello I bought Zoo membership in March and Zoo gave me another $100 discount on the next membership. So I bought River Safari too & paid just $110 for family membership after discount.anyone been to River Safari already?
anyone know if any membership/credit card has discount on River Safari admission?
The river cruise will only be ready by end of the year. I understand the current tix is $ 25 for adult and $16 for kid without cruise ride. When the cruise ride is ready, new tix price will be $ 35 and $22/23 for kid.
The big highlight is Kai Kai and Jia jia. The first time I saw them, Jia Jia was running around playfully for more than 15min. But the next few times I saw her, she was sleeping in her den and we saw her from CCTV images. So have to depend on your luck!
Another nice exhibit is Manatees Mermaid....but no comment for the rest...
So I want to say it will be a good deal to buy Zoo membership and ask them if there is a further $100 discount on the next park. Otherwise paying the standard ticket now is not worth it. -

I find that Science topics in school text books are very brief n simple but the test questions set are so much more difficult.Yes. I have a friend who is a science teacher.
According to her, science is not difficult to grasp but unfortunately, the kids have difficulty scoring. -
RE: Horror Stories - Tutor Recommendation Agencies
i just want to share my story. My mum's friend recommended a tutor (man) to my classmate and I during Sec 1 level. My parents were home during the weekly tuition. But we only had tuition with him for less than 2 months.
On his last lesson, he told my classmate and I that he had plans to open a pub. We were too young to understand pub but I did ask if pub is \"disco-like\".
Then he also told us that he had just been released from prision after serving 3 yrs 8 months for manslaughter! He had killed a elder man at a coffee shop with a western food cutting knife :siam: .....of course my mum and her friend were no longer friends after this incident! :slapshead: -
RE: Travel: Taiwan - Taipei
Hello Mum2BG,
A van only sits 9 people max. Have you checked on the cost of traveling from Taipei to Hualien using train? Since you have 15 people, it may cost more than engaging private drivers.
For 15 pax, you will have to engage a mini bus that can sit 22 people. This kind of arrangement usually cost S$ 550-700 per day. It will include the driver/guide's daily cost. It may be expensive at 1st glance but if you divide up the cost among 15pax plus the convenience of having a driver and not needing to drag luggage etc, it may be reasonable cost.
Sometimes when the driver charges you a daily rate, they still expect you to pay for their meals and hotel stay. So please be sure to check it. Of course it isnt a big deal to eat together with driver but sometimes it can be a bit inconvenience in term of taste or preference.
if you want to get a driver contact, you can try http://www.tripadvisor.com. Search under Taiwan forum. -
RE: All About Teaching Mathematics
For tuition -personally I think it is good to do assessment books especially if the book goes by topic. Then the tutor will know our kids’ weakness.
I realise that my kids learn more in their tuition class than in their school. -

can share how long your kids spend in bigboss? few hours(2-3) enough? besides sky lantern, is it recommended to go the waterfall at shifen ? what's nice in jiufen ? the shopping market seems more like pasar malam (not interested la)..
Baby Boss needs a FULL day. From opening to close, on a busy day our kids only managed 7 jobs. My friend's son did 11 jobs on a non busy day. Try not to go on a Monday. It can be quite busy especially if the previous Sat is a Sport Day, school will close on the following Monday. Then you will probably see 1/2 of Taipei kids in Baby Boss!
Jiufen is nice for little shops shoppings and try some local products. I have been to Jiufen 3X and enjoyed it every time. if you have no driver, when you reach the station, there are plenty of taxi drivers. You can then negotiate the fare depend on where you want to go.
There is nothing much at the waterfall but it is usually included in the trip and is a 10 min stay.
Have fun! -

Girls tend to be harder to manage compared to boys..think several mummies here will agree. My 13 year old will complain, nag and whine about homework...but he will get them done...just that my ears suffer. My p3 daughter still doesn't see the urgency of exams and bochap attitude is killing me. I try to break down her work such that it is bite-size but it is not possible now. I do not wish to see her go to another secondary school when her affiliated one is just next door. So, have to start pushing.
i dont know about boys but my p5 girl is exactly like you said...no urgency at all. It is driving me crazy mad and......sad.....
Its really difficult to deal with tween. If she is not too clever, I can accept. But if she is just plain lazy, I dont know what to do. :scared:
