Check out the https://www.cpf.gov.sg/eSvc/Web/Schemes/LifeEstimator/LifeEstimator. Find it a useful tool to give indicative payments that we might receive when we turn 65
Speaking about CPF, has anyone started looking at the three CPF Life options and what are your thoughts on which you would opt for? -

There was a period of time when I was doing freelance work when my children were younger. Did not think it was worth the while to make cpf contributions then. I kept thinking I would \"park\" my money elsewhere. But, in the end, just left it in the bank which earned miniscule interest.
did think of it...but with govt holding on to our CPF, I think it's more appropriate to park the money elsewhere.starlight1968sg\" post_id=\"1962204\" time=\"1580893486\" user_id=\"14025:

Pardon me for being a KPO. Consider topping up your cpf to have a better retirement.
Had a chanced conversation with my brother at that time, and he advised to reconsider my contributions to CPF. I decided to contribute average 10% of whatever little I earned to cpf. On months where I worked on fewer projects, I contributed less than 10%. Something better than nothing. Not much, but cumulatively, the OA and SA slowly added up. -
RE: eReader recommendation
Oohhh.... looks like Kobo is releasing a new e-reader, Kobo Libra. Apparently it is a little more intuitive to the touch (the Clara is less touch sensitive) and can read manga/comics.
Here's a review by PC Mag for those interested https://sea.pcmag.com/kobo-libra-h2o/34020/kobo-libra-h2o -
RE: eReader recommendation
I had contemplated getting a Kindle but it only allows e-borrows from US libraries and not our NLB e-books. Not keen to purchase Kindle books either cos I figured, if I can borrow, why need to buy. I know there’s roundabout ways to download and convert for Kindle’s use but too lazy (nor have the energy) to do that.
I had read online comparisons that the interface for the Kindle is slightly better than the Kobo. I have no experience with the latest Kindle books so can’t verify those comments. So far, am happy with my Kobo Clara. I don’t need anything fancy and it’s simple and good enough for me. -

Thanks for the shoutout, slmkhoo. I must thank you too for introducing the Kobo Clara to me.The latest Kobo Clara HD has Overdrive installed and allows direct borrowing from NLB without going through Adobe Digital Editions. That is what I have now. My earlier Kobo models did not have Overdrive. However, you may need an overseas address (US/UK etc) because Overdrive (on Kobo) isn't supported in Singapore. But when I started using it in the UK, I wasn't asked for any address, and I've been able to use it without trouble since getting back to Singapore, so I don't know what would happen in you start using it in Singapore. Another KSP user (schweppes) has also had experience with the Kobo Clara and was very helpful when I was starting out.
Hope this helps.
Good to know that the Overdrive license has been extended to Singapore to allow borrowing e-books from our NLB. This is so much more convenient now. :rahrah: -

Not a foodie but sharing a favourite Jap restaurant that my family frequents on special occasions. We enjoy going to Tomi Sushi. You can try their Novena outlet at Velocity http://www.tomisushi.asia/novena/
Since there are so many foodies here: any suggestions for a quiet dinner for 2 tomorrow night? Not too expensive (under $40 per head?), preferably in the west/central area. Other requirements are no chilli, no dairy, not too heavy food (waistline considerations). Japanese, maybe? Thanks!
If you fancy atas vegetarian options, there's Sufood @Raffles City or Elemen @Harbour Front -
RE: Supermarkets in talks to charge for plastic bags
Currently on a massive Operation Spark Joy springcleaning mission on the homefront. We have too much stuff. Those plastic and paper bags which I have been squirreling away came in very useful to recycle still good-to-use items in or to use as a trash bag.
I think it is hard to eliminate total use but a good step is to reduce usage. Where once supermarket cashiers double bag all groceries and into multiple bags, at least I see cashiers and even shoppers requesting for more items to be single bagged. Something positive done better than none. In that sense, at least we are being the conscious consumer to use less plastics.
A lot also depends on shoppers’ mindset who do not see conscious consumption as a meaningful lifestyle for the environment. A couple of friends (on separate occasions) recently commented that they do not care for being environmentally friendly nor sustainability.
Was chatting with my daughters recently on this. I was saying that it may take a generation for a mindset and lifestyle change; perhaps at least another 10 to 15 years where we consciously separate wastes into the proper bins (paper, plastics, glass, aluminium cans, etc), instead of people indiscriminately throwing their trash into the bins. -
RE: Using Singapore Student card in the UK for discounts

My daughter was able to use her Sg student card in UK to enjoy student concessions at the museums. We were not able to apply her student card when purchasing train tix (on the LNER) to Edinburg, so had to pay full fare.
Just want to ask if anyone has used a Singapore student card (eg. from NUS/NTU) to get student discounts in the UK recently? If not, is it worth getting my daughter to buy the ISIC card before we go? We are going to the UK in 2 week's time, so we've left it a bit late to ask! -

I am very uncomfortable with the posts by the above posters including saplings. They post outdated articles and their cut and paste of links/articles are bizarre and clutters the forum unnecessarily. Some of their posts seem to incite negativity too. The recent one on the boy and the childcare centre incident is one example. Why the need to include race in the thread title?
I wonder if annielovesboogeydog = angelsdontexist. bcos they seem to post articles which don't make sense. -

heheh... we from similar era.
In my time, there was no PSLE score, we had to just select schools and see what you get. But I recall there was a set of schools called \"1st-choice schools\", meaning that you could only put them as 1st choice, and should only put 1 of them. If you put 2 of them and didn't get the first, you were just wasting your 2nd choice. And we only got 3 choices. No computers then, so MOE would deal with all the 1st-choices, then the 2nd-choices etc. (I took PSLE in 1976.)
During my time, it was Pass/Fail.
On the day of results, our fate was stuck on the wall. Next to our name was either pass or fail. We had to search for our names according to the order of the names listed. Minimal fanfare; life was so simple back then.
We had 4 choices to select our secondary school of choice, which we cd only do so after the results. The 1st 3 choices mattered and teachers advised that, for the 4th choice, better put the name of a \"so-so\" school in case can't get into the first 3 choices. -

Silkair flies there? Any LCC direct flight to Lombok?
There are a number of one-stop options (eg via KUL, JKT, DPS, SUB) if you don’t mind the extra leg. Can be cheaper than MI sometimes

Oh gosh! You made me want to try Happy food. But can’t lah. My mom will kill me! :rotflmao:
Now we are wondering whether it is a good choice to bring her there because the dengue cases last year was sky high. We are constrained by 3-hr flight radius so as not to tire her. And the places within 3-hr flight radius that she has not been to is limited...
how about Penang? -
RE: Secondary School CCA
Sniper Angel:
Anyone could share whether the CCA 2 points could be use for both JC & Poly entry?
Yes, the CCA bonus points can be used for both JC and poly applications. Under the CCA bonus point system, eligible GCE 'O' Level applicants who have done well in CCA in their secondary schools will receive bonus points when being considered for admission to the JCs and Polytechnics. However, do note that the CCA grade cannot be used to replace another subject.
Refer to page 12 of the JAE 2019 booklet on bonus points. -

I have tried deauthorising a couple of my devices, but when I did it, there was a statement saying that deauthorising doesn't reset the count, and to approach customer service to do it. Since that is precisely what I've been trying to get Adobe to do, I really don't know what other avenue to try. It's a perpetual circle - I ask Adobe, they point me to the forum, which points me back to Adobe... Also, I no longer have some of the older devices (didn't know at the time that I needed to deauthorise before discarding them). In any case, deauthorising without resetting the count is pointless.[/quote]I feel your pain and frustration. So much for customer service, blah blah

You can still use Adobe Digital Editions, it seems. But I have already exhausted my 6 authorisations. Looks like I must switch to a tablet.
On a random side note, just finished reading \"Where the Crawdads Sing\" by Delia Owens. If you enjoy reading about nature, resilience (young girl abandoned by parents and surviving on her own in the marshes and swamps) and murder, can consider borrowing this book. -
