Looking at its RP, it students population is quite widely varied and prone towards to left.

Different jc has different focus and programs to cater to their students. All has strength and weakness. I am sure the relevent dept will work towards their goal but i do not think ejc wants or need to be the top jc to be good in everything. The school is focus on developing the students and as long as the students enjoys their jcs life, we no need to worry abt their distinction rate. Their tutors said they will do well if they are bonded and so they are working hard on bonding, creating condusive environment for students to develop their strength. I want to mention abt David Hoe again in their econs dept, he was mentioned by Mr. NG in Parliament recently. As long as they have such delicated teachers to know how to inspire the students and build resilency, results will come naturally.

For Humanities it also did very well if you know the statistics as you claimed. The main core humanities subject like Lit is >75% dist so 8 out of 10 score distinction (as some P like to use this kind of data presentation). For hist, it has the best achievement with >70% dist, is on par and if not better than ri. For geog, it is > 50% dist but this result is only second to ri as compared with other ipjc. For hci, no way to include them in the comparison as i do not hv their data for humanities. So no need to selectively picked on a particular subject to comment. So i hope we are all clear now. I seriously think its meaningless to compare in this way but i also feel you are doing ejc a diservice by highlighting on their weaker dist rate subject and disregard on their strong subjects. So i need to make sure the whole picture on ejc is correct.

I can understand your pts but you may hv misunderstood me. I know its median. From my analysis, i was trying to point out if rv could not achieve mean uas of 85 with its reported results of 57% got 85-90rp and their good H2 distinction rate, then how can a non ipjc be able to obtain mean uas higher than rv or even hci/ri to become top jc in Singapore, the direction of ip schools must need to be adjusted? However, we can see that moe is slowly trying to balance the gap between the jcs which is good. For ejc, no need to worry abt them, they have their own vision and direction. Moe must hv their own agenda to build a new premise to cater to these group of students, just like they are building new schools for the merged jcs. Eventually, every school will be a good school, only difference i guess is the direction to groom the talents, psc scholars or government agencies' scholars in ip schools remains the same.

This is just a Tea session invitation sent to selected students which NTU hopes to 'recruit\". My DD in JC2 also got invited. Government agencies are also very active in sending out invitations for tea sessions now for talks on scholarship application. This week is MFA (Ministry of foreign affairs)
About REP as I saw your Qs in earlier post, my niece was accepted 2 years ago with all As but a B for GP (so no need 90rp), she didn't take up because she was successful in admitting to dentistry.
NTU recently shared some information on admission to their courses, they will consider to take in students with passion even though the student does not meet the admission criteria.
FYI, REP took in about 50+ students last year, out of which >60% were from HCI/RI.

Err…rvhs had mean UAS 83.75rp with 57% scoring 85-90rp. Gp, one of the hardest subject to score, was closed to 40%dist for rv. Rv also had mean bcme/pcme h2 subject distinction rate of >50% or if not in 60% range. Even that, their mean UAS is not >85. For hci n ri, mean UAS is just ~ 85. If a non ipjc is able to produce mean UAS of >85 to become the no.1 jc in Singapore, then the implication is very big. I SERIOUSLY think moe needs to adjust on the direction in grooming students in ipjc to be very fair to jae students to reduce the inequality of resources allocation and special programs opportunities.

I had my worries when ejc was to be started in mount senai. I pondered over our decision when my dd was in sec 4 because if she was in o level track, she would hv no issue to go hci/ri. However, my girl is doing fine in ejc and ejc has fair share of good and not so teachers, just like any other jcs. Some of their lecturers/tutors are ‘famous’ like David Hoe. A lot of them said he is a good inspiring econs teacher. Ejc is already starting well for humanties as they have quite a handful of humanities scholars. A director of a famous tuition centre which is quite popularly attended by hci/ri students shared that ejc has the most number of humanties scholars, even more than hci. I am not sure if this is one of the direction by moe to groom the students there. At least i think their results should meet the expectation of the school. It is important that ejc works towards bringing up the potential of their students including the jae students. Does it matter if cop is 9-11pts and lose out to some non ip jc or mean UAS is not as good as compared with other ipjc for first batch of students? As long as i know if my girl continues to work hard, she will be able to excel and given equal opportunities as other top tier ipjcs if one would like to call them. They get to attend a lot of programs/seminars/talks as part of the effort to groom them. For weaker students, they also have extra program to help them. At least i do not regret my choice to support my girl for her decision to study in the feeder school that leads to ejc. I remember my girl told me her senior got U for one of the subject in jc1mye but eventually she got A in A level and 7dist. So as long as one is willing to work hard, anything is possible in any school, be it ipjc or non ipjc. 加油!

Max UAS = 90. It consists of 3H2 + 1H1(worst H2 downgrade to H1) + GP + PW.

So 3X20 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 90. Those got 8 or 9 dist, probably they take 2H3 + including HMT. To take 2 H3 subject needs the approval of MOE, so only probably RI or HCI can produce such results. EJC does not hv students taking 2 H3, so max for them is 8 dist.
As a parent, i felt relieved after they announced the results. It was not bad considering the fact that it was the first batch of ip students from 3 feeder schools and they formed ejc first batch of jip students with jae students. Everything started from scratch. The effort was commendable.
I do not think we should focus so much on mean UAS. By being in a school with high UAS doesnt automatically earn one a place to get the score, its still ownself’s effort and motivation to make use of the resources to try to excel in A levels. It clearly proved that ejc can also produce high achievers with good no. of distinctions. They already produced a handful of jc scholars and they will go on to produce their first batch of uni scholars.

I know they were limited slots for other JCs' students to attend the talk but my girl didn't sign up because it was their commendation day in the morning. The talk was in the afternoon on 16th Nov.

I wish all the very best to your daughter too! Probably you can encourage her to join Youth Corp, NYC. They organise many activities and trained leadership. My daughter has violin so she also has a hobby to play with to kill time.
Anyway, i tried a long time to get my girl to open up herself to join more activities. I must think for her what to do n entertained her calls when she has no one to talk to during the activities. But we had gone pass this phase, now she will try to make friends herself. She learnt all the gossips from her friends to know whats happening in school but she doesnt have a ‘click’. To me, it is good enough. After all i said, there is too much distraction if you need to hangout with good friends n keep so many chats in social media, so just focus on A level, hobby and acquires useful skills from the opportunities open to her.

Being an Aspie, my daughter is also poor in social skills. She has friends in school but not very close friends. She only has one very good friend since primary school. However, I am not too concerned about her friendship issues but I am more focus on dealing with her anxiety, lack of self-confidence, avoidance attitude.

She would have severe migraine and stomachache issues before exams or when stressful events coming up esp in sec school since academics became more stressful. She would ask me if she can skip the tests/papers/events and I always rejected her because I felt that it would develop into a habit by applying this “avoidance” attitude. I said it was OK even if you failed, so just took the pain killer and used your mental will to complete the papers. I always counselled and reminded her that it was very important to stay focus and build up the mental strength to handle difficult situations/failures.
Her academic performance was built through a lot of hardship and I discovered this was the best way to boost up her self-confidence. In P2, I discovered her talents in Maths and Chinese with her strong memory and processing skills. We focused on using these 2 subjects to compensate for her weakness in English and Science. She could use her almost full marks Chinese comp and Paper 2 marks to compensate for her poor oral marks etc.
About social skills, she is still poor at it and still trying to manage it but she also learnt that friendship needs to be maintained and every party has to put in effort, she needs to take initiative as well. She said she doesn’t know how to start an interesting conversation but can learn and mimic her friends. She would observe them and try to copy them. So I just laughed it out.
I encouraged her to do volunteering work and joined youth corp to learn more things and widened her social circles. But frankly speaking, it was a blessing in disguise because of her strong academic performance, a lot of opportunities open for her to join the programs by the various organizations such that she can meet more people and meet more friends from other institutions.
She learnt her leadership skills only in JC, quite slow as compare to her peers but I was glad that she finally dared to try.
Depending on the condition of each child, early intervention to build up their skills can help them to conquer their deficiencies along the way. Now we do not need to use her strength in sc and maths to compensate for the humanities part as knowing her weakness, I actually sent her to learn GP in Sec 4 and she matured a lot through the GP lectures to learn about global and Singapore issues etc. Being in the right place at the right time is important because the maturity of a teenage is important for their development. So, need to meet the right “伯乐” at the right time. For this, I am appreciative and grateful to Tong Yee and his team (especially Ms Chew who had taught her for 2 years).
Tong Yee gave a note to the JC2 students 3 weeks ago on his last lecture: It is our sincere hope that our time together has given you new ways of looking at the world. We hope that you have matured beyond stereotypes. That you get it that distinction offer us amazing new ways of seeing, being and acting on behalf of our many shared challenges. Beyond the broad beliefs we have about countries, institutions, players and people, there is a world of beautiful distinctions. You, being the most unique distinction that can genuinely make a difference in this world.
I certainly hope my daughter can get the distinction (not only for A level next year) but the distinction of acquiring skills that can help her to deal with the challenging society and the distinction in her ability to be able to contribute to the society especially to help those who are in same condition as her. I wish!
