Greenflowers:My ds also diagnosed with mild ADHD, I never use the Ritalin as he still able to do well in school. in-fact he is in the top class. So if your ds can follow your guidance and no problem with school work. I personally think don't use the medicine. But if the other way, then you may have to consider using the medicine. As I saw other kids with more serious condition the medicine help in school work.hi ycted,
Thanks for sharing your experience. DS1 has been diagnosed as borderline ADHD by CGC, but I hesitate to start medication as I've read that Ritalin has potential side effects that can be serious. Would you be able to share how you came to decide to start medication? How does one weigh the risk of side effects vs the benefits of calming the kid down enough to do his schoolwork?
Sigh.

RE: How to tell if a child is gifted?
linden2000:
Agree. They do not like drilling and can get very poor grades.Chenonceau:
Are most gifted kids naturally motivated?
No.
Gifted kids dun like to learn boring things or in a boring way. If you bore them they won't engage and then they will get very poor grades.
Especially in lower primary, when a lot of the focus is on handwriting and punctuation, they can get frustrated when many marks are deducted for punctuation mistakes or bad handwriting.
For Maths, they may be able to figure out the answers in their head but do not write down the workings or jump steps and hence, lose many marks though they get the final answers right. Similarly for Science, they may have the vast knowledge in their heads but when answering the questions do not write down the key words which the markers look out for and so still do not get the marks.
And for some gifted children, because they are so used to acquiring knowledge fast when they are younger, may give up more easily when stumped by difficult material when they are older. Some gifted children are underachievers.
my ds was like that too. how to help him so that he will not lost interest in learning. He is complaining with the system now. -

Funz:
And then there are also the other types of parents who keep suspecting that their kids though normal could be ADD or ADHD or autistic. I find that a lot of parents think their kids are hyperactive but in reality, they are just kids being kids. It's the parents who cannot keep up and that makes the kids appear overly active.
Hi Funz, my ds was diagnose with mild ADHD. So long he don't get over stimulated he will be fine. So I always worry not to let him 'move' too much. How to judge what level of 'hyperactivity' is normal for a P3 boy. -

RE: All About Aircon (New, Maintenance, related components)
I had used many different company before and at last found that All Best Air-Conditioning is reasonable. Why did I say is reasonable is because they will not recommend unnecessary job, price reasonable, and I got them to install a set of air-con 3 years ago and they did a good job. Pipings were installed logically, as short as possible and neat. I got a resales flat and you cannot imagined how the previous job were done. Drain pipe very very long any things stuck in between cannot be suck out. Piping layout very funny showed out in the middle of wall, so placing of furniture also having problem. You can call them at 62596266.
A friend of mine using Gain City and she is happy with their service. You can consider too. -
RE: Losing weight after pregnancy
I had both my first 2 pregnacies at 20+ year old. The first one I gained 20kg and 2nd 16kg. I went back to my original weight after 2nd and 1st mth respectively after birth. I can fit into all the cloths and pants before pregnancy. For my 3rd pregnacy I gained 20kg as well. However, it took mths to went back to the original weight and the waist still remain ‘big’. It took 5yrs for me to fit into one of my jean but the rest still can’t. After 2yrs it reduced another 1 inch, but still have another inch to go to fit into the pants that I have. So for my case, the age of pregnancy matter, the older the more difficult to recover not just the shape the health too. I can feel the different.

I had my first baby at 25 and 2nd one at 27. I had read that best time for women to have baby was between 25 to 29, can't remember the exact figure, it was so long ago that when I plan to have my baby. It was good for both mum and baby, mum recover fast and baby will be more heathlier...
