Hi deminc,
The doctor ds saw is Dr Koh, he is the head of department. We had done the skin pick test which test for Saline, Dustmite (Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus), Dustmite(Blomia tropicalis), Animal Danger (Cat, Felis omesticus), Egg white, cow’s milk, soy protein. Ds was tested positive for Dustmite type I mentioned, the rest negative. It also test for Histamine which act as control, this must get positive in order the results will be accurate. That is before taking this test, the patient cannot take any antihistamine. We had decided to stop seeing Dr Koh. As ds was only 2 yr at that time, all the medications he had taken has side effect on him. When using nebuliser he will get very stress up which is no good for mental development. If take oral, the ventolin will caused fast heart beat. I really feel it, it beat so fast that worry me. And most time oral medication don’t work. So I gave up to see Chinese doctor. After taking TCM for so many years he has been more settle. During the last few years, we had been running between Chinese doctor and KKH (cheaper than seeing Dr Koh). Sometimes, we need to use nose drop given by KKH then the sinus go off. Example, my sis left her hamster with us for one week and ds got breathing difficultives. TCM also don’t help, have to see KKH doctor. Then, he prescribed him a nose drop to clear his nostril. Luckily, do not need to use any inhalers.
Dr Koh did mentioned if don’t take care well, ds may get asthma attack.
I think you may bring your ds for the test to find the exact problem. Then is easy for you to help him. Beside the skin pick test there is another type of test. Can’t remember now, I think is the blood test. Check with the doctor.
I don’t use fabric sofa at home as it trap dust and dirt. I use half leather sofa, easy to clean.

RE: Travel: China - Shanghai
jeparent,
We went to Shanghai 2 yrs ago on F & E. We stay in Nanjing road with about S$100.00 a night; include breakfast, my friend recommended. It was the cheapest I can find in Nanjing Road. It was very easy to travel around, we took the subway and it was very nice and impressive. If you don’t want to take subway, it is very cheap to travel by taxi in Shanghai. You have to visit Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, if you bring children. I was told it is very very good. My dd1 went with school and shown the picture very impressive. We took a taxi out from city to Qibao ancient town. We tried their fishhead soup. It was very nice and very big portion.
We borrowed books from library, the book shown very good map and things must do. The present website also give very good details. Do some resarch before you go. -
RE: All About Vacuum Cleaner
Deminc,
Hv you try the doctor in NUH allergy dept. Ds was diagnosed by the doctor there with dust mite allergy at 2 yr old. He only has breathing problem and need to use nebuliser. Besides routine cleaning… all the sugguestions Funz had stated, I use pillow and mattress protectors and wash them once a mth. Everynite we will on the air cleaner for a few hour in the air-con room and off it. We have to bring along the air-cleaner for our holidays, if not ds will be very sick. He is better now as what Funz said this could be our effort and/or they had grow their own tolerance and immunity.
My sis and I have childhood asthma, we out grow it. But have to remember it, cannot explose to the allergens at young age as this could do damage to the body for life term.
Beside dust mite allergry do your ds has others allergries like mushroom, seafood… This happen to me now, I was in 40+, my immunity drop. So beside the haze make my nose stuck and watery eye, if I ate the above mentioned food I will itch for a few day and sometimes cannot sleep for the first night. So I guest your ds may have others allergies.
I’m also interested in the vacuum cleaner your mentioned pls let me know your feedback. -
RE: How to help a child who keeps losing things in school?
My dd2 lost her school uniform and skirt in separate occasions and never find back. She also lost her school books twice (different book) one found the other no. I insisted she had to find it but at the end teacher called me to get one for her. She lost a lot of small items and story books too. All this happened in lower primary. So when she go to upper primary she never lost her book and uniform, but lost her student card a few times. Found it back and lost again so many time until P6 totally lost. I didn’t make new one for her, she had to travel bus using coins in sec 1 till she got her new student card. Now she is more careful never lost her student card at all but still forget where she keep her things now and then. This don’t happen to dd1, she never lost her item. In-fact her is very careful when others took her things. ds in P1 now, so far only lost pencils and color pencils but still find them back. I use label with his name on the pencils so he can find back from his friend.

RE: Travel: Korea - General
Thanks mathsparks, I'm afraid no time to try this trip as we are following package tour. Will try if we revisit Seoul.

RE: Travel: Korea - General
MMM,
Ya we follow CTC this time. It's Korea + Jeju 8 days trip you can see the itinerary thru CTC web site :http://www.ctc.com.sg/tour.php?tourcode=KOR8
I'm lazy to plan a tour this time so decide to follow tour. We are more to see the country and get somethings to do, if not my 2 dd will complaint. I guess there are a lot to do in Seoul itself at very casual timing. I'm personally feel that our trip don't have enough time to cover seoul city. There are more things to see, may be next time we can go again for F & E just for Seoul. So pros and cons, enjoy your trip.

RE: Travel: Korea - General
We travel the same period.

There is another way for you as your is F & E. Call the airline to check can you change the date and what are the charges. Then call or write to hotel, check can you change the date and until when. These were what we did for last year H1N1 outbreak in June. I changed the flight with just admin charge only as the new date are cheaper then our fare. The admin charge was around $200. Then changed the hotel stay to Aug without any extra charge. So we had a more preasant trip in Aug last year, as we know later the virus are not really so serious as it was told to be. -
what if the war starts when you are there?
Sorry didn't read properly
As said will wait and see, and before departure will check with the tour agent and insurance then will decide from there.
The worst, if we are there and we are covered by insurance, we will move to a safe location and try to get the earliest flight back or even ship to the nearest country and take flight back. Pray god this don't happen.
