Q: 59 students bought fruits. 47 of them bought apples.38 of them bought pears. They bought a total of 85 fruits altogether. How manay students bought both apples and pears ?

what's the better approach? draw boxes? (easier to see, but quite a number to draw)
Draw models of 59 47 38. Using 59 as guide, 47 starts from left, 38 starts from right. The overlapping part of 47 and 38 is the answer to the question.

47+38-59 = 26 = Answer

Conversion, Decimals, Fractions, Percentage are related to each other. P5 topics.

Use real life illustrations. Like buy a packet of bee hoon for $0.90. Give the seller $1 must take back how much?

Break piggybank. Pour out coins of value 10cents 20cents 50cents and dollar. Let child play and explain to them the value. At the same time, can teach them using notes too.

School workshop are usually free or much cheaper.

Books can’t really capture a child’s attention. If they are interested, they will finish the book in no time. If they are not interested, the book will be sitting in corner of the room.

Young kids like entertainment, e.g. hands on practise or fun websites for maths. But don’t do it too regularly in case they get addicted to it and refused to do worksheets .

Yea found out. This school does streaming at P3.second best not too bad I hope!

At this age, best or second best carries little weight. The boys will suddenly do better due to Science, and the 'late bloomers' or those who did not go for early enrichment will start to shine.

Each year, I pray for good teachers who could connect and nurture. Other things are secondary. But that's me.

True...well u can't select school teachers but u could select your private tutor.

Hello,

I am here because dd having difficulty with math...sigh...
Almost everyone is here for their children :grphug:
Just go slow and easy, no pressure. Once on the track, push to limit.
Give them ample of time, encouragements, rewards, commends.
Maths is fun and enjoyable, keep it that way.
It's not just about numbers and formula.

Mum Needs Advice:
Hi all

Does any kind parents know what type of questions are usually tested for hands on maths
For primary 3.

Please help to give advice as I am quite desperatw . Dont know where to start preparing my son for the test.

Thank you in advance
U mean CA1 test / SA1 exam in schools? Or surprise test in class?
I don't believe in Hands On or fun websites for Maths personally. It's very slow learning, only used for students to get a general idea of questions.
I am thinking of getting help for my P3 DS's Chinese. Besides tuition centres as an option, I am also considering a home tutor. Any good recommendation of home tutor around Choa Chu Kang area?

Have you tried asking your neighbours? I was quite amazed to find out that there were home tutors operating in/near my block. But have not used these. Please be careful with recommendations online, I usually go via word of mouth (esp pp I know and trust).

Good luck for your search.

So far only one neighbour, she will inform me when her tutor comes. During holidays, their lessons are not so regular.
Depends on the amount of budget :moneyflies:
Usually Full-Time tutors will advertise or create websites to draw crowd.
Part-Time tutors are less passionate about teaching, after all part-time is just extra income. People would put in more effort into their Full-Time career than Part-Time career right?

Hi,

I need help on this question. Can someone help as I need to explain to my gal?

1. Ali has a total of $76. Some are $2 notes and the rest are $5 notes. He has 4 more $5 notes than $2 notes. How many $2 notes and $5 notes does Ali have?

Thank you!
Take out $2 and $5. Set a simple question. Using 2 and 3 as answer.
Ali has $19, some are $2, some are $5. He has 1 more $5 note than $2 note.
Once solved, increase 2 and 3 to 4 and 7 then 14 and 19.

In case u need help to solve question or show working.
$76 - 4x $5 = $56. (Remove 4x extra $5, so same amount of $2 and $5 notes)
$2+$5 = $7 (1 group of $2 and $5 = $7, group them so can find number of groups)
$56 / $7 = 8 (groups of $2 and $5, there 8x$2 and 8x$5, don't forget 4 extra $5 subtracted earlier on)
8 + 4 = 12

Working wise is short and sweet.

(8+4) / (5-3) = 6

mceducation1:
What is important is not about getting the correct answers but the ability to help the child understand the mathematical concepts and learn how to apply them.

Teachers have been trained to teach using pedagogies / methods which are effective and often such pedagogies have been researched in various degrees of extensiveness.
Ability to solve a question =/= Ability to teach =/= Ability to lead/train

This is the ONLY reason parents are paying more for tutors from NIE/MoE :moneyflies: They are more likely to get the point across to the student. Experience in teaching/tutoring also helps.

But that doesn't mean all NIE/MoE teachers are surely better.

It is about the passion to teach, to treat every student as own child, wanting nothing but the best for student. It's not just that short duration of tuition, it is also the effort put in behind the scene to prepare for the lesson which part-time tutors or current teachers lacking of.
所谓 养兵千日,用兵一时。Tutors must have their resources, updated information about MoE syllabus and school.
Every student is different in terms of their strength and weakness in the subject and their learning speed. So tutors need to adjust their teaching to suit students.

There's many type of tutors available.
-Young tutors doing part-time tuition
-Parents (housewife,househubby) doing tuition
-Tutors doing full-time tuition
-MoE teachers earning extra income
-Retired teachers doing full-time tuition

Ask students \"Parents or tutors?\" . Tutors because parents use cane :spank:
Tutors that use cane can't be found anymore.
