Linden had 29 more fifty-cent coins than ten-cent coins.

After he had used 37 fifty-cent coins, the value of the fifty-cent coins was $3.20 more than the value of the ten-cent coins.
How many fifty-cent coins and ten-cent coins did he have at first?

      TIA
      fifty cent = 1 unit + 29 - 37 = 1 unit - 8
      ten cent = 1 unit

We make it 1 unit of fifty cent and 1 unit of ten cent
      so the different will be $3.20 + $0.50 x 8 = $7.20
      $7.20 divided by ($0.50 - $0.10) = 18
      1 unit = 18.
      At first : 2 units + 29 = 2 x 18 + 29 = 65

Hi, can someone help me with this 2 questions? thank you so much 🙂

A survey was conducted on a group of pupils who liked chocolates and sweets. 3/5 of the pupils like to eat chocolates. 1/2 of them liked to eat both chocolates and sweets. 40 pupils like to eat only sweets. How many pupils like to eat sweets?

20% of the cost of the book was $2 more than 1/10 of the cost of a bag. If the bag cost $50 more than the book, find the cost of the book.

      :thankyou:
      40% = 40 = sweet only
      50% = chocolate and sweet.
      40% = 40
      90% = 90 (Ans)

      20% Book - 10% Bag = $2
      2 Book - Bag = $20 ........Equation 1
      Bag - Book = $50 ........Equation 2

      Equation 2 + Equation 1 :
      Bag - Book + 2 Book - Bag = $20 + $50
      Book = $70

Every day, Alif, Lenny and Vishnu are assigned different duties as prefects. They take turns to either raise the flag, record the names of latecomers or lead in pledge-taking. In how many different ways can they be rostered to carry out these duties on any one day.

      http://i62.tinypic.com/148du2u.jpg\">

      TIA
      Volume of tank = 448 x 22 = 9,856 ml
Figure 1 shows the volume of 8 blocks + water = 10/22 of tank (4,480 ml)
Figure 2 shows the volume of 3 blocks + water = 3/8 of the tank (3,696 ml)

To make the number of blocks the same, (because questions ask for vol of water)
(If we make the number of water the same, we will be finding the vol of blocks)
      From figure 1(x3) : 24 blocks + 3x Water = 13,440ml
      From figure 2(x8) : 24 blocks + 8x Water = 29,568ml

From above equations, 24 blocks is equal to ....

      13,440 - 3x Water = 29,568 - 8x Water
      5x Water = 16,128
      Water = 3,225.6 ml

Question is set to hide the ratio of 10cm to 22cm and 3 blocks to 8 blocks .

      PSLE Maths Question today.

      1. What is the likely weight of 8 $1 coins?
      (A) 6 grams
      (B) 60 grams
      (C) 600 grams
      (D) 6 kilograms

My student Isabelle put as 60 gram (B)
You should know if you are a tutor or teacher.
6g is too light... for 1 coin maybe possible.
8coins = 6g means 1 coin less than 1g can be blown away by mouth.
      60g is possible
600g will be like weight of 4 iphones
6kg will be weight of school bags perharps?
