Hi,

I dont seem to be able to find out how to fix the buttons and badge on HCI uniforms, not even on HCI web which is pretty weird. Thought such are standard info to be made available. Can share how and where to put on? Need to or can sew it on? Thanks.

      Hi,

Would like to check with existing HCI parents is there needs to buy S1 topical assessment books, reference books or practice papers for any subjects? There are more new subjects now so a bit confused what to get for my DS and if there is need or worry the school curriculum may be too pack such that no time to do extra non-school assessments. Any advice is appreciated and if there is a need, kindly recommend the subject and associated assessments/reference books to get. Thanks!

HCI's school badge is to be purchased at the bookstore. No name tags required. Socks are normal white school socks (ankle socks not allowed) and shoes can be track shoes, as long as 70% is white, dark blue or black. No neon coloured markings.

Same rule applied for ACS (I). It's very difficult to get sports / track shoes with 70% white these days. Unless you go for canvas or school shoes. Any body managed to find any good ones? Searched IMM & Vivo yesterday. Couldn't find any suitable ones.

it doesn't seem that 70% white rule is strictly enforced, in school videos and pictures i see kids with shoes much less than 70% requirement, at least from acs i. So it may be more strictly enforced in some schools and less in others.
HCI stated white is approved colour for shoes but predominant dark blue or black are acceptable, no mention of 70% or whatever.

Reported to secondary school today. Scorching hot day.

After buying the books, went over to get uniforms....the queue was so long, the operations manager told us it could easily take 2 hours before our turn which is possible. He asked me to go another another day and I was like, \"huh? No way, have to settle this whole thing today.\" So we went down to bras basah complex shop instead. It was a mess there were 3 queues inside that small shop.
      Took us half a day.
Now left with washing and ironing. We are ready for sec 1.
HCI is much more organised...I was really impressed. The books one side, paid and take (pre-packed), school uniforms/PE attire the other side, go into the 3 queues available, 1st stop is someone will do measurement then proceed to collect and pay. I was there early and everything was over in less than 30 mins. Registration part was non event too, much to our surprised.

Hi timtim, yup I will be purchasing a total of 4 sets of PE attire..going tomorrow to exchange one shirt (the button hole is torn!)& maybe purchase another set of uniforms as my DS is very careless with uniforms ( stains & dirt all over his white wear- boys la you know).

I understand the PE lesson is only once a week, so isnt it a waste to get 4 sets of PE attire just for orientation? They will outgrow very fast. At most I will get 1 more set and make do, hopefully the extra set will not be used during the orientation.

Ya i know, my boy too, some more all white..but luckily his pri one is also all-white top, pretty similar to HCI ones. So he has learnt to extra careful over the years.

      Thanks for your info ,Lexis.
I suppose I have to make a trip tomorrow to purchase more buttons & extra pe attire (for orientation-have to prepare extra one tee).

I find the quality of the uniform pretty bad...around pocket area is quite bad, almost got hole already and if just apply a bit of strength, sure tear. Dont think can last. It is too think also. The PE attire is much much better. Quite disappointed. Have to make a trip to change. I called but nobody answered. When will they open till end Dec?

      Timtim,
I called the bookkshop around 10plus & was told the bookshop is open from 9-3pm (not sure is it just tomorrow or daily ).I am going to the bookshop tomorrow to buy extra set of PE attire (already bought 3sets) as the boys have to bring along extra PE t-shirt for the 4-day orientation as stated in the folder we had collected earlier...
So you bought total 4 sets of PE attire? That's a lot. What about uniform? I also managed to called the bookshop and understand they opens as long as not weekends and holidays. Thanks!

hi HCI parents (maybe shld move to HCI thread).

All the boys do HMT. They have to wear the white shirt/khaki shorts to school Monday to Thursday, and change to PE attire for PE lessons. PE lessons are once a week (when my son was in Sec 1 (2014)). Fridays is their dress-down day, and they can wear PE/CCA/Class/School approved tshirt with Khaki shorts to school unless the school informs them otherwise.

Some CCAs (uniformed groups, sports) will require them to wear PE shirt for CCA, so you can adjust accordingly when you find out which CCA your son is joining.

As for the buttons, I sewed them on and they are fine. They haven't rusted or come off, just became a bit bronze-colored. Just for reference, for the past 3 years, my ds has gotten by with 3 sets of white shirt/khaki shorts, and another 3 PE T and 2 PE shorts (black).

School bookshop is open 9-3 pm during term time.
Hi, very good info! Thanks! :goodpost:

I agree that the quality is not that great and the material is quite thin and looks like it will crumple easily. BTW, do they all take HMT by default ?

Another question is how many sets of uniforms and PE attire is required? No time table so hard to buy now. Currently, believe most parents bought 2 sets each as advised by the vendor. But somehow felt still not enough. Troublesome part are the badge and buttons, each wash have to remove and put back again... :slapshead: :slapshead:

4 pcs of the silver buttons per white shirt .. 2 at the shoulders and 2 at the chest pockets. HCI thread previously had a discussion as to the best way to affix the buttons.. haha. I just sewed mine on, and lasted throughout the 3 years.

      Thanks for your info ,Lexis.

Just now in a rush at HCI…only got books and uniforms, but what about badge, name tags, shoes and socks?? Just books and uniforms (plus PE attire) already spent more than 300, good that in HCI, both the bookstores by Popular and uniforms supplier accepts credit cards.
