Dear allI remembered reading some sharing from one of the mummies recommendation regarding a Maths website whereby you can retrieve some free Maths tutorial and to purchase the Maths CD ROM (video of a tutor demonstrating problem solving skills). However, I've forgotten the website now. It is NOT the MyHomeTutor as it is much cheaper. Anyone know the website ? Please advise. Thank you.Cheers! :siam: Angeline

I am looking for K2 to P3 children to form a new abacus class with my 2012 primary 1 dd.The class is conducted in Soroban Education Centre at Orchard Road. ds started training with the two teachers (Ms Wong and Ms Yen) in their Bukit Panjang branch since k2 (now he is going to primary 5) and I am very happy with the programme because (1) The class was personally taught by the two teachers throughout the years he was with them. (2) The two teachers are highly enthusiastic about abacus themselves - to the extent that they have set up their own personal abacus museum! (3) I like the finger abacus technique when ds first started his training with them, I think it has helped ds very much in laying a strong foundation in maths operation. I can't fit into their new class schedule in Bukit Panjang Plaza. But according to teacher Ms Wong, they are also willing to start new classes on Sat 2.00-3.30pm or Sun 11.00am -12.30pm. More information about their programme on their web site:http://www.soroban.com.sg/about-us.htmlThank you!

I was looking for insights and advice about methods for teaching my 4 year old daughter how to read time, how to understand the notion of 'time left' ( before going to bed, ;-). I ran across a time-teaching watch apparently using pictograms instead of digits or hands. Anybody knows of this method? Cheers. Daphne. Here is their website : http://www.watch-kids.com

funfantastic4:You may wonder why I'm not teaching my own gal. I found that when you teach your own kid.....you have a certain expectation over them and that deprives you of your patience. So I decided......let the teachers or enrichment classes handle them.....and I'll just sit tightly and be the good parent. actually, the parent is the best tutor for your child. That is, if you persevere and control your own emotions, and manage your expectations. You will find that the rewards are well worth the effort. You can view this as a bonding process. There will be tempers flaring, but if that obstacle is overcome, the bond between you and your child will be much stronger. It is only through adversity that strong bonds are made.once you hit P3 and above, the child needs to understand the different hueristics, how to recognize the different category of problems and which heuristic to use. Of course, you will need to have a strong grasp of the fundamentals, ie. how to add improper fractions, what is a fraction, etc...

oh thanks. I thought imaths introduces early maths concept because pat's use this system till K2laughingcat:OIC. It's okay. BTW, cannot compare between the I-Maths with Montessori. As the I-Maths IMO is not a proper way to teach maths. It is use more on right brain logic thinking only, precursor to Maths. Yes, Montessori maths is more rounded in teaching Maths. This is what I did and supplement with right brain logic thinking, which in this case use loads of right brain materials. Hopefully this helps.

agentcodybank - My kids have Kumon for English and Maths and these are helpful because they strengthen the kids' foundation. They can complete their Kumon worksheets within 45mins so it's not a big deal. My dd attends a weekly tuition session at a nearby center. Each session is about 1.5hr long and they give maybe max 4 sums to complete by the following session, so again, it's manageable. School homework takes priority over other homework so on days where dd has many homework, all other work is stopped. But there are some days when teachers don't give her any homework and that's when we step in and give her a couple of sums to do. I know it sounds like a lot but we are mindful of not stressing her out too much. But I think I have a special daughter who unfortunately has inherited my \"interest\" in maths
