Yes, Maths Hub has a way of contacting parents of students who made it through to NMOS Special Round. I think they produce some Math magazine which a lot of kids subscribe to so they have a database.[/quote]Hi yukilei, Would like to clarify, Maths Oasis is the publisher of the interdisciplinary mathematics theme based magazine by the same name -Maths Oasis instead of the former.-Maths Oasis

I’ve managed to scale this concept of transferring values directly to a table for upper primary maths problem sums. It works and it eases the english comprehension aspect of complex problem sums. The method works by breaking down the analysis into simpler smaller steps. The conventional way is to analyse the problem and form a solution in the mind and then transfer that solution to paper. It is a one step process and is not really suitable for someone just starting to work on the problem sums. With this method, the analysis starts by first directly transferring values from the problem sum to a table. Then the relationships between the values are "seen" from the table. It is much easier this way.I will be conducting a free workshop on this method for parents on 21April and 28 April. You can see how this method scales for PSLE type complex problem sums. You can check out the Happening thread for details on this workshop.Parents who need a pdf copy of the diagrams I posted, can send me a PM with their email address. All the diagrams are in one pdf file. So it’s easier to print it out and have it in front of you while your child is working on "more than" "less than" problems. It will be great to print it out in colour.

happyandhealthy:sorry for typo error. it shd be like what ksi assumed. 5 baskets, 8 eggs. thanks for pointing out.hi ksi thanks for your detailed explanation. I can now understand. I used to tell my son there's no difference between the 2 number sentence as you get the same answer ultimately. guess I have to be more careful.thanks again for your great help. You are welcome happyandhealthy. This is where our kids learn the exam-paper smart part if a child is already very smart in knowing the commutative law or for advanced kids.If it is a worksheet or topical test or the year they are being tested for the learning concepts of x groups of y, then they have to be careful which one comes first. After bypassing that stage, it is fine. In other words, come PSLE, this would no longer be an issue.

Math is Alive subject and this subject is very important even in university besides languages.Training the child in logic, visualization skills, independent Learner, full of confidence at young age is a blessing to the child.Your child won’t lose out in primary school. With added guidance from parents, the child will excel well.
