Opinions of the Primary School Registration System

Or how abour after Phase 1, limit P2A to a max of 60% of total intake. If somehow take up for Phase 1 is already 60% or more, then P2A, 2B & 2C get equal share of the remaining seats.
Simple suggestion:
After P1, remaining places divided P2A 33.3%, P2B 33.3%, P2C 33.3%.
Unutilised P2A places (if any) divided equally between P2B and P2C like it is now.
A child of an alumni who is also a PV/clan or church member/community leader can have 3 bites of the cherry.
By allowing P2A to go up to 60% (after Phase 1) instead of 2A having equal share with P2B & 2C is to be inline with the current policy which reflects contributions from alumni are valued more than volunteers at 2B.
ps. all my children already in Primary school.

With the declining birthrate, what is the chances of p2A taking up all the places in those schools? :scratchhead:

In my most humble opinion,
1. do away with affiliation to sec sch - then we will see how many alumni still interested in putting their child in the old school despite the distance to be travelled.
2. focus on making each school a good school by investing in the education of teachers-to-be and making continuous education of teachers compulsory.
3. set up a centralised testing system for school tests and exams.
4. set up a resources sharing centre, make it compulsory for each teacher to contribute, penalise those teachers who give substandard contributions.
5. rotate school teachers among schools.
PEACE. -

Abolish affiliation into secondary schools.
Standardize children to enter secondary schools, based on Psle (a common exam that every p6 child has to sit for) results only. -

Yes, standardize children to enter secondary school based on psle results.
Thus remove all forms of DSA, and that's what I deem fair. -

But some cap on alumni phase is clearly in order.

But I still say it's tuition that makes the difference.
Good suggestion!
Then everyone will have a fair chance.
Schools in the neighbourhood like Rulang, red swastica, st nicholas, rosyth etc are also facing the same problems as those in bt timah, novena area. Noted that there is a long list of schools with less than 40% places after phase 2B.
Whatever research MOE is carrying out, they have to note that a low number of applicants in 2C does not mean that there is low demand for that school in phase 2C!
People make calculated risks. If there is very very little space left, they probably would not want to take the chance to join the ballot for that few space available.
I am an alumni to a SAP school. This is causing pain in my decision making too as firstly my kid is bad in Chinese and I do not wish to cause her agony. Secondly, my alumni school is far from my home. Although my consciences tell me, don't make my gal suffer. It's 6 years we are talking about. Long distance + additional focus on a subject she has difficulty coping. :stompfeet:
I prefer her to join the school near my home! But, the places available for phase 2c is so limited in my neighborhood school. They have strong alumni and church affiliations.
If I can get into the school nearby, I would not need to go back to my alumni school and deprive another child from getting in. My alumni school requires balloting for phase 2C <1km. But if i choose to ballot in my neighborhood school and i am balloted out, i will hate myself for not taking my alumni school.
It's an chicken and egg thing.
Without alumni link, I will have a super high chance to get into the school in my neighborhood. Then I also need not take up a space in other neighborhood.
Everyone happy, I guess. Or at least, the child will be happier. No need for long journey everyday. Don't think at primary one, the child will care if she is studying in a school her mum used to go to. For them, more resting time should matter more. -

If my girl goes to MGS, school bus will pick her up at 5.20am.. Kinda early for a child, no?
Definitely too early. @ 5:20 am, most of us are still in bed. Unless you can pick and send yourself, don't sacrifice her precious sleep time for commute. I'm an old girl too and stay in the East. I send/pick my DD up myself, it takes less than 30 mins to get to school via PIE in the morning. Traffic's not too bad, just the 10-min queue on Blackmore Dr to enter the school compound.
On CCA days and supplementary/remedial lessons, the CCA bus will not take your DD home. Some CCAs like GB ends at 6:30pm on Fridays, it means she will be home super late. Do consider very carefully.
Quoted from the MGS thread. Guess this is the typical concern most alumni faces if you happen to be far from your alma school. Yet it's very hard to give up this strong priority esp if yr school is a branded school with strong affiliation link.
