My girl's finger tip was severed at childcare
-
Kitty socks,
I am very sorry to hear what happened. I have a lot to say about this, but no time now. The most immediate thing now is choice of doctor and medical fees. Did you pay for insurance when you registered your child? If so, the school group insurance policy should cover any accidents in school, and be able to cover part of your medical fees. Both my sons had to go for minor surgeries for different things, one for hand, one for lip. Both by private doctors, but the results are very different. In any case, check how much you can claim. I paid over 15k for one son and 2k for the other.
All the best. -
Btw, we saw dr who is a specialist in hands and feet. He is good with bones and tendons and was recommended to us by a respected pd. BUT for some reasons, the stitching was very bad. My son did not heal up well. It could be that my son’s case was more complicated and took longer than he expected and he had to rush before the GA wore off, but the stitches were very coarse and did not close up at all within the expected time. When the bandages came off accidentally on the day we were supposed to go to his office to remove them, they bled all over again - not a little bit but oozing dripping all over. His receptionist actually screamed when we RAN to his office. My son still has very obvious keloid scars that should not be for young children.
My other son had a plastic surgeon stitched up a cut to his lip. The hospital staff told us we should to make sure the edges are properly done, especially since it was the lip. The stitches were much finer and he healed up very very well.

kittysocks,
i feel really bad about what u and ur girl went through. i really hope that the hand specialist/s is able to do wonders on ur girl’s finger. Please be strong in front of your girl. -
OMG!
Don't they have those cushiony anti-slamming-jam fixed on the doors?!! Thought it's common sense precaution to have all doors fixed with that, how could an established preschool not knowing it??!
My heart goes to you... :hugs:
Best wishes to your DD's speedy recovery. :hugs:
(This is the first time I am gonna advice somebody to take legal action!!!! :nunchuk: ) -

Sorry to hear about this. The principal is a good administrator but one really need to be comfortable with the principal. A good principal will seriously take one’s suggestions/comments into consideration instead of just executing her duties based on the school guidelines.
Why can’t the school send your girl to the hospital in the first instance instead of waiting for the parent to come?
Did the school applied the common knowledge of icing the severed part at the first instance? If not, have they flopped their duties as caretaker?
Accidents do happen but the reaction to crisis by the care taker is important. Have they failed in their duties? Have they shown their concern to the kid or just cast their responsibilities aside? What is their after accident altitude? Do they suggest any measure of taking extra care of the girl in term of physiological need?
Take care! -
I share your pain and sadness… almost in tears…
Please take legal actions and make a report to MCYS or governing body that checks Childcare facilities.
You can sue the centre actually. I do not wish to have any chance of another accident. -
Hi Kittysocks,
I think you should take action against the centre. Demand for the CCTV footage. See whether the incident is due to negligence by the teacher.
