2013 P1 Registration Exercise for 2014 In-Take
-
This year’s Pri 1 registration exercise can be better managed by MOE. This is how I feel. Thanks for bringing up the minister who assure that there will be a place for every child. Now, the truth is there are not enough places to cater to the needs of children born in 2007.

This is common. Perhaps HDB should set a rule that PRs are not allowed to sublet out rooms to earn profits.
I'm curious - how do u define 'high-end'? My parents neighbor from Philippines is merely an IT support staff but almost his whole family are here (wife, daughter, brother). Just minus the parents only. They rent the whole 5 room flat (4 bedrooms coz old type) and sublet out two of the rooms.pirate:
It is not MOE's responsibility to provide enough spaces in public schools to cater to all foreign kids who are not PRs.
Only high end employment pass holders are permitted to bring in their families. These people should be able to afford to send their kids to international schools or otherwise take care of themselves. -
I don’t think they are PRs

actually the the work pass holder has previously applied dependent pass and long term vist pass for the family, even in the process when he downgrade from employment pass to spass, he can still renew the dependent pass for the family. (MOM law changes wef sept that spass holders cannot apply for dependent pass for families). This only affect people who has just come to singapore and has Spass -

How does moe predict accurately the number of foreigner kids to be enrolled each year ?phtthp:

This serious... our educational infrastructure is not coping with the surge in numbers. I hope MOE is ready with a well crafted response.

These people cannot afford international schools. That's an annual salary of 48k against international school fees of approx 25-30k/year depending on the school. -

As other forummers had mentioned, MOE is not obliged to provide places for foreigners at all. His assurance is for Singaporeans and PRs. -

I think what the Minister meant is \"there will be a place for every citizen and PR.\"sembgal:

There will never be enough places to cater to the needs of all children born in 2007 if all employment pass holders decide to bring their dependents to Singapore.
For children whose both parents are PR but decided to keep the child as a foreign citizen, I do hope that the parents understand the risk - no placement - that they have to undertake. You can't always have the cake and eat it. -

Education minister's message \"have a place for every child\" -
Is meant only for Singapore citizenship & singapore pr kids only. -

Just checked MOE website.
1st day of Phase 3...
2274 kids vying for 1507 places nationwide!!! (if i didn't hv butter fingers on the calc..)
You were right. Here is more info
Phase 3 availability: 1,507
Registered applicants: 2,274
Unsuccessful applicants: 767
Remaining spaces for phase 3: 90 spaces in 14 schools in 9 city areas
Over- subscription average for all areas in Singapore: 167%
Most over subscribed school:
Advise from MoE agent on potential new classes: \"Please go to the school and wait list or come to MoE for advise. We are not able to disclose what advise the agent will give\"
It is unfortunate that Kiasuparents does not provide this information for Phase 3 as there is obviously a need even for children of Singaporean parents to know this info
Area\t School\t \t Avail Reg Left Oversubscription
Tampines\t Griffiths Primary School\t 12\t39\t27\t325%
Queenstown Queenstown Primary School 39\t117\t78\t300% -
Imagine, if moe had assured that even foreigners kids will get places in our public school, you and I will be subsidizing the education of these kids through our taxes! That would be ridiculous!
Thankfully, the minister only meant SC and PR kids when he said all kids will get a place in primary schools.
