Learning Chinese (Primary/Preschool)

My daughter is four this year and I'm starting to get anxious about her Chinese abilities as we intend to send her to a SAP sch as it's the closest to my place.


Recently, she started to receive Chinese homework from her Chinese teacher and I started to converse in Mandarin with her more. We have been reading chinese books all along but now with a greater emphasis on character recognition.

To help understand what she reads, we read these books that are in English and Chinese and I've been making flashcards of certain words for both versions.

I didn't use to like Chinese but now looks like I have to also pick it up again so that I can coach her at home. But ultimately, what I hope is that she can learn to develop an interest and liking for the language. Hi, maybe can check out Children's Art Theatre (opp Kembangan MRT at Kembangan Plaza B1) ? (http://www.childrenartstheatre.com/). I used to send my two kids there when they were at lower primary. Group lessons can be more fun for younger kids I feel.

Looking for an experienced tutor to teach my boy the chinese language.


He has been in Pat's school house for two years, so he has been exposed to the language (not completely a newbie). I want to build on this foundation.

Hi, I’m also in the same boat- we don’t speak any mandarin at home and my son (3 years old) only gets 45 minutes of mandarin a day at school. Does anyone have recommendations for 5-days a week immersion programs that he can attend in the afternoon? We are in the central area. Thank you!

My kids totally enjoyed these, but I’m sure there are others as well. I don’t follow the dramas as they are not so suitable.

Hope someone can help.

We have a 7-yr-old child who's now attending P1.
We would like to her to continue her Chinese enrichment classes [from Tien Hsia] since we don't speak Chinese at home (we are Malay).

Our child started her weekly class in Tien Hsia when she is in K1
Unfortunately Tien Hsia, Han Language School and a few others are now catering to P1 syllabus.

Is there any parents with same situation and have successfully done something that's effective for his/her child?
Please share what you did, we want to learn how.

The best immersion program is \"watching tv shows\" !

Expose them to more mandarin tv programmes, and mandarin books! TV programmes are great, though, and kids seem to enjoy them.

To those pm me recently: the teacher I mentioned in the forum told me, all her slots had been taken. For those interested, you will have a chance in June. As her O level students will stop the tuition after the exam in early June. Then, she will take a short break around 2 weeks before back to work later in June.
