      Hi!

need advise for my dd who is now K2 and starting Grade 1 RAD Class.
Her classmates are mostly P1 so when they take Grade 1 exam in April next year, my DD is not eligible due to her age.

So is it ok for her to skip and not take Grade 1 exam and wait for Grade 2 exams? Would it affect if she needs the grades in DSA in future?

im so confused now. She’s a June baby so she wont be ‘officially’ 8 years old and also not eligible to take Grade 2 exam?

      thanks!!

        Dear phtthp

Your explanations are very details and correct.

But I have seen many parents would created a big scene at the centre by shouting at the top of their voice demanding the reason why? once they were informed that their girls were not allowed to take the coming exams or to move one grade down.

Parents must understand that not all kids take ballet exam, seriously.
Any mistakes make by the student may affect the group as a whole.

If she's not eligible for grade 1 next year, she would not be for grade 2 too. Honestly it doesn't matter. What's important will be the child readiness for exam and do well.

My gal was not eligible for grade 1 exam, so she skipped the exam and progressed to grade 2. She will be taking the exam this month.

From what I know, the age restriction is only for grade 1 exam…as in they may have problem meeting the 7yrs min requirement. At Grade 2 age requirement is still min 7yrs onwards . The only problem may come later at the higher grades, grade 5 I think, when they have to be min 11yrs.

              vlandy:

              Hi all,

              I've enrolled DD for modern jazz;

              1. Is it common practice that the teacher will add additional class on top of regular class for exam preparation? (duration 6 month for additional class)

              2. Is teacher really have full authority to exclude any student from taking exam 3 week before it even after taking additional class (I found it a bit unfair on our side)

I'm not familiar, so pls share your honest opinion.

              1) Yes, it is a common practice to attend an extra ballet class -
6 months before actual exam, held in April each year.

The girls need to familiarize their ballet dance steps well, before entering the exam venue.

              The examiners from RAD.
They fly in from London into Singapore, on the actual day of exam, to assess the girls.

              2) Your child's ballet teacher will assess your dd -
for her readiness to take the ballet exam.

because not all kids take ballet exam, seriously.

If Tr feel that your dd is not ready -
she has the authority not let your dd participate in exam.
(even though you may have already paid for the ballet exam fees, upfront)

Normally if your dd is not ready to take exam -
the Tr will inform the parents first, 2 months in advance first.
Parents will be alerted, early notification.
Tr will advise parents to help their dd revise / practise her ballet steps at home - to buck up, in time for exam !

Tr will ask you to sit in with a video camera at the next lesson, to video tape your dd's ballet steps -
so that when you go home, you can play back the video, observe which are the steps your dd made mistakes with, and help her practice the steps correctly at home. This way, parents can help their dd to improve.

Because your dd does not perform individually, during exam.
She enter as a group together with a few more others, they dance together as a group during exam, right in front of the examiner.
              Normally, is either 3 x 3 or 4 x 4, go in as a small group.
So, there will be many small groups queuing up for their turn, on the actual exam day.

Any mistake your dd make -
may affect the group as a whole.
The angmo ballet examiner who flew in from London -
will write down comments to record your dd's individual exam performance, inside her Grade xxx ballet certificate.
(whatever exam grade she is taking)

              phtthp
              Thank you for your reply,
Is the same apply for modern jazz dance (not ballet) class?
May I know whether this exam is compulsory?
What if my DD doesn't join the additional class and exam?
Will this grade exam in any way would help DD in her P1 school academic?

              Thanks again.

Hi, I have a slightly strange question. My daughter is 4 and on the chunky side. She is not fat, but can tell that she will not be a wispy little thing. Should this affect our decision to enroll her in ballet? Are teachers prejudiced against bigger girls? The last thing I want is for her to have some kind of complex due to unkind people.

I always thought that ballet teachers should be very slim like a ballerina. However, my child's current and past ballet teachers are the big sized types and at times I will wonder how they pass their ballet exams but then, they are good at teaching so the size is not a concern, be it for children or for adults.

Every year, ballet exam is held in April.

For \"Primary\" grade RAD exam, what does it entail ?
                    Many dance steps are involved.
The girls need to remember all the steps, well.

The girls normally enter exam room, in small groups of 3.
They are normally in Primary 1. (aged 6+, turning 7)

                        Hi,

Anyone knows which ballet school allows parents to be the room or somewhere that i can be visible to my girl? She loves dancing but she has separation anxiety, she will cry if i were to leave her in a new place with strangers.
