Kindly help me on the following P6 maths:

A fruit seller had a total of 204 red and green apples in the ratio of 9:8.
After he sold an equal number of each type of apple, the number of red and green apples left was in the ratio of 9:5. How many apples did he sell altogether?

Hi, allow me to give another approach to solving this question
204 divides by ( 9 + 8 ) = 12 parts
Therefore, there are (9x12) = 108 red apples and (8x12)=96 green apples
The difference between the 2 types is 12
Since the same nos. of red and green apples were sold,
the final outcome should also reflect a difference of 12.

Because the ratio between the red and the green apples is 9:5 in the end,
we can make use of the 9 and 5 multiples

9 l 5 difference is 4
18 l 10 difference is 8
27 l 15 difference is 12 bingo!

Since we have established that the difference should still be 12 in the end,
therefore there were 27 red and 15 green apples left, total = 42 apples
Thus the nos. of apples sold is 204 - 42 = 162 Ans.

The \"he\" here is referring to Alvin or Brian? I said it's Alvin but according to the model answer given by ds teacher, it's referring to Brian.

My answer is 3150, teacher answer is 300.

My understanding is that \"he\" refers to Brian.
So of the 3/5 of the comics received by Brian and Charlie, Brian got 5/6 while Charlie got 1/6.

Sorry...too busy to work out the solutions. :oops:
But using the teacher's answer of 300, it matches my understanding.
So Alvin gets 240 comics, Brian 300, Charlie 60.

means that for every 5 books Brian (5 units) received Charlie(1unit) received only 1.
And together this 6 units correspond to 3/5 of the total books

Please take a look at my solution. Hope you get a clearer picture now of what \"he\" refers to. It should be Brian according to the structure and flow of the sentence.

2. A slice of chocolate cake cost $1 more than a slice of cheesecake. 100 slices of chocolate cake and cheesecake were sold for $359. There are 18 more slices of chocolate cakes than cheesecake.

a) How many slices of chocolate cakes were sold?
b) Find the cost of each slice of chocolate cake.

1 stool and 1 table cost $75
20 stools and 20 tables cost $1500

1 Stool and 1 cabinet cost $165
4 stools and 4 cabinets cost $660

For above: 24 stools, 20 tables and 4 cabinets cost = (1500 + 660 ) = 2160

Thus:
Tthe remaining 4 stools = ( 2300-2160) = 140
1 stool = $35

One cabinet = (165-35) = $130.

Alice paid $130 for one cabinet.

Cheesecake = 1 unit\t\t

2 units = 100-18
2 units = 82
1 unit = 41

Chocolate = 41+18 =59

59 slices of chocolate were sold


Solution for 2b)
There were 59 slices of chocolate and each chocolate costs $1 more than cheesecake, which means we should deduct $59 from $359, this make chocolate and cheesecake will be same price.

359-59 = 300
300 / 100 = 3

3 + 1 = $4 (chocolate)
Each slice of chocolate cake costs $4
